You nade a roux with the fat and flour like you said then when you add the mike it became a Bechamel sauce as well, now if you add cheese it becomes a Mornay sauce. Seems like all good sauces/gravy start with a Roux. And cooking the roux longer turns it into a darker roux good for Cajun and Creole dishes. Now I am hungry think I'll make your Biscuit gravy, yum! Thx.

I'm a vegetarian now for 40 years but was raised on bacon fat that was saved in a can on the back of the stove, probably one of the reasons that I became a vegetarian at the age of 15 , so I am grateful to see this simple recipe that doesn't require animal fats because I do love some gravy on my mashed taters and biscuits. Thanks so much for keeping it simple.

@alfonsoamador9583 жыл бұрын
No no no you were right...how lazy....
@angelastein37963 жыл бұрын
Not as lazy as folks who spend extra money to just throw something in the oven or microwave. This is a simple recipe, but that doesn't mean that it is gross by any means. Sometimes people don't have the time or energy to make extravagant meals, and for those occasions recipes that are simple are best. You say that's lazy." There's nothing lazy anout making home cooked meals, cleaning a house that's been destroyed throughout the day with children playing clean dishes, clothes, help people with homework, and get everyone ready for bed. Yes, this is a simple recipe, but there's nothing simple about life and some people have less time to cook than others. In situations like this, there's nothing lazy even with throwing a store bought pizza in the oven when you have 6 other things requiring your attention in a day. You must be a real peach to live with.

For other options, and richer flavor (in my opinion) I always start with a sausage/bacon grease base. You can add a little butter to the grease but be careful if it is very hot the water in the butter can splatter. I also like to crumble some breakfast sausage, brown it till it is cooked through, and set it aside. Adding it back into the completed gravy alongside a heap of fresh black pepper.
