Bush cooking at it's best. I show how to cook lamb shank in a camp oven , makes such a delicious meal while your out camping.
I cook these lamb shanks in a camp oven, slow cooked over three hours.
It doesn't get much better than slow cooked lamb shanks in the camp oven with red wine and mash potato on the coals of the campfire.
Lamb shanks cooked at camp out in the bush taste amazing and when they are slow cook over 3 hours inside a cast iron camp oven, the meat of the lamb shanks just falls off the bone.
A slow bush camp cook up of anything cooked in the camp oven will make a very tasty meal.
Inside my cast iron camp oven with the slow cooked lamb shanks, i have added red onions, half a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon red wine, chicken stock, garlic and a few other tasty additions.
With all of those ingredients mixed in with the slow cooked lamb shanks on a bed of mash potato, i served up a very nice meal out in the bush.
This is fine bush camp cooking at it's best.
When you cook your lamb shanks in the slow cooker.
How long do you cook them for?

Lamb shanks used to be the pensioner’s cheap buy. Then they became popular and the butchers and supermarkets doubled the price. Nonetheless, the meat when slow cooked falls off the bone which btw is half the weight and you can’t eat the bone. Lol. You need to walk that off Tim. 👍🏻🙏🏽😷🦘

G'day Grahame, Yeah spot on mate about they were a cheap meal. As a kid, my mum would buy them from the butcher to feed to the dogs. Lol Now look how popular they are. Thanks for your feedback mate. It was a great cook up. Cheers Tim.

Your videos are always a treat! I always enjoy the tips and tricks that make campfire cooking more successful. As for slow cooking in a dutch oven, I like to bury my oven in the ground with hot coals. That way I don't have to babysit it and I can spend the day fishing or hiking and come back to camp with dinner ready.
