That's exactly how i cook rice but only use 2x the amount of water to rice. It comes out really good. I never cooked millet like this before but i can't wait to try it. I can almost smell it already lol.

Hi Sylvia, thank you! Yes, millet is much more nutritious than rice. I use millet flour to make gluten free tortillas, which we eat almost daily, but have not gotten into the habit of eating whole millet often. Must do something about that!

Millet is no different from Oatmeal which is the grain of choice in Western societies. In Africa and Asia, millet is a staple seed-grain and has been for thousands of years. This millet porridge can be eaten same way as we eat oatmeal porridge for breakfast - with milk and sugar/honey for flavor. I like the way you cooked this one by boiling, I prefer it the way you did it, fluffy.

Thanks. Nice method. What should we do to de husk millet. The one with husk is too difficult to chew. I do not know whether we get the de husked millers in market. If yes what are they called. Thanks in advance.
@1savvyveg99 жыл бұрын
+Srinivasa Nandiraju I have never cooked millet with a husk, and I don't know how you would de-husk it at home without a milling machine of some kind. I suspect that it's necessary to get the de-husked millet. One suggest I have is to try soaking the millet (with husks) for several hours, or soaking then sprouting it before cooking.

Not when I toast it, but otherwise, yes. You can rinse and drain it well first, but then it takes forever to toast.
@cpnicolas118 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Also I've bought this whole grain millet and the instructions suggest 3 cups of liquid rather than 2, therefore I'm not sure the difference of adding one extra cup. Is it necessary? Plus I'm using a rice cooker 🙈
@1savvyveg98 жыл бұрын
Christopher Nicolas Millet does require more water per cup than quinoa or rice. Try using 2 1/2 cups water. If it seems too dry, then use the full amount next time. In a regular pot, you could just add a bit more water to the bottom of the pot and cook it longer, but I don't know if you can do that with a rice cooker.

Funny how people go crazy when they discover food poor people been eating for generations is healthy 😂😂 during colonial times in africa millet/sorghum was replaced for maize because had a higher calorific content also easier to grow. However this has led diabetes galore and drought resilience issues.
