Both of my grandmother's used to make these. Neither ever heard of a dehydrator more than 60 years ago. They each would string the beans on thread and hang them all over the house on the curtain rods to: to dry. Occasionally if the weather cooperated they would spread the beans on a window screen in the sun to dry, of course bringing them into the house at night so as to avoid the morning dew. Your video brings back long forgotten memories. Thank you!.

They look great. I love pickled beets with shuck beans. Instead of soaking them overnight I usually simmer them for about half an hour then drain the water and add fresh water to cook them. Mom called that shifting the water. Thanks for the video!

I’ve found that if u want to eat shuck beans (any kind really….) on Saturday, they should be cooked on a Wed. or Thursday - then just keep’em in the fridge ‘til ready to reheat & eat. Much better flavor & not watery! God bless all of you crazy Goforth’s! 😂😂

Watching this makes me want to do this again this year! My grandpa spoke of his mother storing beans like this, he called them leather britches, he said she would cook them practically all day on a wood cook stove. With the canning supplies being in question, we may need to resort to storing beans this way again. Thanks for the video!!
