Whaaaaat on earth??? I literally had 3 salmon steaks last night, and had no idea what to do with them, so I drizzled them with lemon juice and olive oil, sprinkled lemon pepper, and baked them with fresh asparagus, zucchini, and red onion. Bleh! I would’ve really loved to have served them using this recipe! Why on why am I always off by one day? LOL! 🤦🏻‍♀️ On the flip side, we did some Osechi shopping at Japan Central yesterday, and guess what I bought? Shishito peppers and shirasu! YES! Honestly, thank you for sharing your beautiful food and your beautifully made videos! ♥️

If don't have sake, is there anything to replace it?
@CookingJapanese
@CookingJapanese 4 жыл бұрын
You can use Chinese rice wine, or dry sherry. If you want to leave alcohol out all together, you can substitute rice wine vinegar mixed with water or white grape juice for the sake at a 1 to 3 part ratio. Or you can replace it with water or broth. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching🙏🏼

Why is sugar necessary ?
@CookingJapanese
@CookingJapanese 5 жыл бұрын
The sugar is what gives teriyaki its shine. “Teri” literally refers to the luster that comes from the sugar content. And of course a slight sweet taste comes with it as well. You could try substituting sugar for honey as well. Thanks for watching ♥️

Cooking Japanese thank you very much for your explanation. So the overall taste is sweet. Is it compatible with fish?
@tf7602
@tf7602 5 жыл бұрын
@@gulmerton2394 I don't think the overall taste is very sweet, you have the salty soy sauce as well. And since it's not store bought sauce, you can just adjust the sugar content to suit your taste. The sugar makes for nice browning and thinking about it, probably looses sweetness when it caramelizes :)
@CookingJapanese
@CookingJapanese 5 жыл бұрын
@@gulmerton2394 Yes... not with all fish. But it goes very well with Salmon!

Some substitutes for sake is dry sherry or Chinese rice wine. You can also use water or broth. Chicken broth would go well with Teriyaki Chicken. Thanks for watching!
