[How To] Copy Large 4GB+ PS2 Games to FAT32 USB Drive Tutorial

This is a highly requested video and it is finally here. I will show you how to take your PS2 ISO games that are larger than 4GB, and then install them to a FAT32 formatted usb thumb drive or usb hard drive using USBUtil 2.0. This is only needed if your games are larger than 4GB.
If the game is less than 4GB, then put the ISO in a DVD folder on the root of the USB drive, and then use OPL 0.9.3 to play. If you get stuck on a color during boot up, then defrag the usb drive and try again. If it still gets stuck, then disable fragmentation check in the settings, or maybe your game is just not OPL compatible, sorry!

Important tip, the files (Splited ISOs) created by the USB Util must be placed on the root directory of the storage device in order to show up on USB Games List on OPL (Open PS2 Loader) menu, instead of placing them on the "DVD" folder.

But what if you have multiple split games? Say i use usbutil to split more then one game, where do the games go then? because as far as i know and literally just tested, OPL can only see one game on the root directory at a time, because there are only one root directory at anytime (obviously) You also can't copy one set of a split game into the root or folder with another one, cause then the issue with the ul.cfg happens as they are named the same and even if you keep one it has to be renamed, rendering a whole game unplayable in OPL cause you would not be able to see it on OPL

@@Woodnsus Hi i ended up dropping the idea in this video, what i did was buying a McBoot FMCB memory card off Amazon and tried to run games from a Kingston 64GB usb 3.0, one major issue with that however is that most games won't run and even when they do they run in near slow motion, that is because of one major issue, the PS2 has 2 usb 2.1 ports, 2.1 is simply too slow to read data, meaning huge open world games or anything graphically intense or just large games in general may not work, However there is 2 options out there that are sure to work if done right one for the Fat PS2 and another for the Slim PS2, The best way to run games on a Fat PS2 is to buy: *Buy a McBoot FMCB memory card (make sure the memory card is original since non original may die out faster) *Buy a SATA hard drive 2.5 or 3.5 (2.5 is recommended) *Buy a PS2 network adapter SATA upgrade kit (however only buy one if you are purchasing an original PS2 network adapter, the non original won't need a SATA upgrade if purchased as a SATA to begin with) *Buy a PS2 network adapter ( This is what plugs into the SATA hard drive, there are original and non original once, difference is that the original once can connect to a computer to transfer games to the SATA hard drive through a computer at home, while the non original can't connect to any computer but in turn are SATA ready and does not need a PS2 network adapter SATA upgrade kit) For a PS2 Slim you only need to buy one thing, DVD discs, and burn them using Imgburn, if you do burn them do so at the slowest possible speed, PS2 games tend to turn out better when slow burned, however i have no idea what DVD brands work best or if there is in fact some that work better then others, Another thing to keep in mind is that the DVD's need to be DVD-R for the PS2 to recognize them. And that is all i managed to figure out, test and my conclusion to this, The one thing people forget is that the guy in this video does not actually show proof of this working on a PS2, cause when you use this method and plug it in, the games run at near slow motion or outright refuse to start. I am sorry that this may not be the answer you were looking for but this one can't be done without spending money, Or at least it can't be done properly, the only other option i see aside from this is running the PSX2 emulator on a good PC and play PS2 games that way, however i personally prefer to play games on there native systems.

PROTIP: To make USB OPL runs faster a little bit, try to use SD card (Class 10 SD card preferred) with the USB adapter, an incremental improvement over standard USB flash drives.

wtf only if you've got a old usb stick. a usb3 stick is much faster than a class 10 and its really cheap now. also class 10 its not 2015 any more... try uhs 1 or maybe 3. but to be honest a stranded usb stick from bought in the past 5 years should do just fine.

For what it worth, for a friend I got God of War 1 game ISO and it was like 7GB. Mounted it virtually, used usb util 2.0 and ripped it to root of external 320gb hard drive. OPL detected it fine and run like a boss.

Programs like usb util 2.0+ or usb extreme can take the game iso file and split it and put it on the root of the usb so that opl can play. This is what I've seen done in the past.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia HI, sorry for the confusion, so what I did was take 360 gigas of a 2.78 Terrabyte Magnet Torrent I have for PS2 games. I extracted the ISOS in the PC and then transfer them to the 1tb harddrive. When i did this, anything over 4.2 gigabytes would not copy to the fat32, so I used USBitily to seperate the 36 games that where over 4.2 gigabyres. (however, if you pass the RAR or ZIP files before exatracting them, they WILL exatrct inside the drive). Long story short, I have succesfully transferd 103 games, installed the latest OPL and my son is the happiest 15 years old during these days of Quarentine. Hey, so I got the card and everything was working fine, then all of a sudden OPL quit showing my list of games. I checked the USB on my computer and everything looked the same. I tried to google it and I saw on a form that deleting the configuration solves that. Well I went on the memory card and did just that. I just did this last night for a client. Games that are ISO I put in DVD folder, games that are too large I used usb util 2.0 to split and save in root. Use program OPL Manager V22 I believe to rename the files to correct format for newest OPL use and it will scrape the cover art for you and save.

Hey, i need help i just deleted splinter cell chaos theory from my mobile via a card reader with pendrive inserted. I was stuck finding ways to complete the mission I started sweating with the urge to puke 😂 man I played with high hopes for that game but it turned out to be garbage because of dizziness. And after deleting the SLUS.532.69 files (total 4) for that game from my iPhone, I also deleted it from the “recently deleted” and the space was finally freed 7gb available space but when I entered opl and refreshed the game list it’s still showing splinter cell chaos theory…. Any solution how to completely remove and stop this from showing ? Cause I already deleted all the game files of that game from the pendrive yet it still shows up on the game list.

i have a problem when i create games from iso..when all this process ends the ps2 cant detect the games.

When I put a copy of Gran Turismo 4 after it goes through the program, It won't detect it. I tried to paste the game chunks into the Internal Hardrive but I couldn't even get it to paste. Now I *have* to get a real copy. It's annoying because the PS2 is basically dead and now you require a retail disc or get a burned copy and a modchip in order to play games like GT4 and NBA Street Vol.3. I'll never get why they put a limit on FAT32 and make it so that every console will only take FAT32 or It won't be detected. Makes you think: What's the point?

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't one like that. There is a program like psxvcd that helps with file management a little bit, but it doesn't copy over to usb or anything like that. www.psx-place.com/resources/psxvcd-by-englishl1989.669/

I don’t understand how nobody has a answer for this yet!!! Everyone says put the files on the root of the usb so OPL can read it (which I did and it works) but idk if it’s possible to put more than one game on the root without OPL not being able to read them anymore. If anyone has an answer plz drop it here!!

What are you guys talking about in all fairness? Use a program like USB Util 2.0, and I can put multiple games in root of usb with split files and OPL reads the game list fine. Do I need to make a tutorial showcasing this scenario?

Can you try opl manager v21.9 to make sure game files named properly? Also if fat32 and primary partition on usb, then should work with opl

Dont listen to users which argue "USB with more than 4GB space will not recognised by PS2". It does not belong to how many GB they have. It belongs to the format of USB. If it is FAT32 formatted it works well with PS2.

My usb is 32 gb and work perfectly, just be sure you format it in FAT32^^ Though, some usb key may not be supported by the ps2, but most will, Lexar will.

Yeah after questioning about that myth i bought a 16gb USB to test it myself. It works well. If it is FAT32 format, it could be recognised no matter how many GB it has.

Use usb util 2.0+ and with opl manager to fix your game names, then OPL should detect your usb games
