Please heed Anna’s advice in shortening the damaged nails as much as possible. If you don’t, and think you’ll get away by keeping some length, you’re setting yourself up for a worse situation! The damaged longer nails will tear or break and cause even more damage further up on your nails. I’ve lived it and learned it. Several times til I gave in and filed them all off short!!! I’m in a much better position now as I try to grow some length and have them healthy.

As someone who suffers from cuticle scarring from Nursing eczema, I have found that over-night isolating & hydrating with silicon finger cots worn with La Roche Posay CICAPLAST Baume B5+ &/or a high-quality oil beneath (even Elizabeth Arden Ceramide pod that was massage applied to my face & neck with my fingers & nails, then covered with cots… REALLY REDUCES the dry scars stretching & splitting of my cuticles. It is unpleasant & unsanitary to have cracked fingers, but putting the finger cots on? World of difference! Just be sure the cot is anchored to dry skin by the palm, or it will slide off: fuzzy socks over cots? That works well, & keeps the unguents warm to absorb

I have not been able to get Kerasal in South Australia but I do have Dermal Therapy Heel Balm. I have only used this product on my feet until hearing you talk about Kerasal with 10% urea. I was worried at first because Dermal contains 30% urea and I thought it may be too strong for the finger nails. However, I have been applying it to my finger nails 3 times a week before bed and the skin around my nails are perfect. I have never had damaged nails because I have only ever used normal nail polish and now Essie glow and shine (no gel, shellac, acrylic etc). The only problem I had was hangnails, however, since applying jojoba oil throughout the day after hand washing I no longer have this problem. I love watching you do a manicure on your nails and love the natural look! Thank you for your ongoing advice!

I've been following you since I had my powder dip tips taken off in October 2023 (after.2 years on). At the same time, I took my toe polish off and started conditioning my toe nails as well. I started using the OPI repair mode and the jojoba soak and all day oiling of the nails. It's amazing how healthy my nails have become (I'm 57) with these new habits. I have dazzle dry waiting to apply once my nails are where I want them to be or if I have an emergency situation where I need my nails done properly. I have about 1/3 new nail on my hands now 3 months later and I can feel the difference of the new nail with my finger tip, the term plasticize makes sense now. I still have ridged nails growing in but I think over time that will improve. I hope it does. Thank you Anna for everything you do!

I am a nailtech from the Netherlands... recently the Russian Manicure is a hype now here and BIAB is marketed as healty for your nails. I get new clients that really believe that BIAB is healthier then gel or acrylic. What I also see is, that BIAB stays on for 4 to 5 weeks on the nails. Which cant be good, but it happens. They apply a very thick layer, but BIAB or Rubberbase has to be applied thin... so there you see a lot of issues after BIAB

I've done my own gel nails for a few years, and for the first time ever, I had the nail plate separate from the nail bed. Weirdly enough, the nail plate doesn't even look that damaged, so I had no idea why that happened. I didn't cut it, though. Just hoping it will grow out 😭But maybe I will after watching this video, even though there's no discolouration or anything similar to these pictures.

Very often it's a sign of allergic reaction. Basically the body is trying to "get rid of", separate itself from the nail plate that is full of irritating ingredients

I have seen so many that do this which made me start to doubt my thoughts why I should not ... thankfully I stuck to my guns and haven't used any clippers/scissors ...just kept everything as healthy as I could with cuticle oil and vaseline is a great help too. It's actually interesting how language can also be a factor when it comes to misinformation. In the Netherlands we call the PNF 'nagelriem' (literally 'nail belt'), and we don't actually have a word for the cuticle. As a nail tech in training I'm taught it's called the 'cuticula', but literally no regular person talks about it. Very interesting!
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Perfect then, nail fold is also a correct term. So what do people say they cut? Nagelriem?
@iNanieke Жыл бұрын
@@TheSalonLifeYes, we call it 'cutting the nagelriem'! So at least we are using the correct terminology while abusing the skin 😂. (Obviously I'm never gonna do it on my future clients)

Im from the Netherlands to but I did got taught about the pnf and curticle but I still got taught to cut it. They taught me if you do it right it won’t damage anything. But your right, I never see anyone really talk about it. Everyone only talks about cutting it because it looks better and your gel takes longer to grow out. I really love this channel, I learned a lot from it.

@@iNanieke I learned to remove the cuticula from the nailplate.. and never ever cut the nagelriem... but now this company is teaching how to cut the nagelriem and if you dont want to do it, they say I dont understand why not? I am confused
@iNanieke Жыл бұрын
@@serhataganer335 Which company is teaching to cut the skin? In my training I've learned too that I should NOT cut the nagelriem. But I've been to salons here that do cut it (it's the Russian manicure technique). I guess everybody is free to do what they want, since there are no regulations here regarding the nail technician profession. But if you look at the issue scientifically, cutting the nagelriem is unnecessary, it's risky and can cause many problems: you can accidentally draw blood and risk infection. Breaking the skin will make it easier for pathogens to enter. Tender skin like that will be more susceptible to allergies. And lastly, the skin will grow back harder/tougher and you will have to keep cutting it. I've had my nailfold cut in the past by my nail technician, but since I push it back daily and use a lot of oil, it's now almost invisible and neat. People wanna cut it when it's ugly, but it's usually ugly because it's not being taken care of. Sorry for this long rant. Hope this helps!

I've been using Blue Cross and the Pushy, and jojoba oil for about three months now, and the difference in my thin, bendy nails is astonishing. That’s fantastic to hear! There is nothing to be scared about Maybelline or Rimmel. They are good brands. They don’t contain any bad chemicals. Just please compare the ingredients side by side and tell me which ones are bad. All the new pure plant based lines are pure marketing (pun intended) They use the same ingredients but say that they come from plants (like nitrocellulose comes from cotton which it kind of does, or wood pulp but it’s mixed with nitric acid just like any other nitrocellulose in any other nail polish) Here is more info :) www.patreon.com/posts/least-toxic-nail-82856635?l=es

Thanks for this informative video! I I’ve been using Mavala and it did not work well for me. Maybe I was was using it too often (2-3 times per week), my nails have always been soft, thin and bendy. After a while, the Mavala made the nails too hard and they constantly broke off below the quick. They are just now not breaking off and are starting to get a little length again. I was thinking maybe once a month would be okay and beneficial. One reason I used it was because the surface of my nails have been very peely lately (because they are more ridgy (aging?) and polish will not stick (Dazzle Dry only!)and it might have helped with that. Anyway, maybe I will try the OPI product.

The nail will look ugly if you cut the part out where it separates. It is advised that I put on some nail enhancements to let the nail grow out after the cut for nail plate separation?
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
The problem is that often this happens BECAUSE of the enhancements (for few reasons). Also the enhancement will create like a leverage and it will pull the nail up not allowing it to adhere properly. Not to mention that any enhancement and even polish raises moisture level in the nail which can contribute to further lifting. Also nail enhancements are enhancement, not replacements. They should be applied on a nail not on the skin. Healthy nail to top it off. So I would say no :)

I always feel like it bonds to the nail so much and it's so hard to get off (regular polish, not gel) Greetings from a viewer from Germany😊 I Love your videos, there needs to be more appreciation for natural nails.
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Hm. I don’t think it bonds better but it’s more difficult to remove. Maybe the acetone cannot get under the glitter parts as easily to dissolve the polish. The best method to remove stubborn glitter is soak off method like I remove Shellac. Basically wrapping the nails in aluminum foil

Can I use only Jojoba Oil instead of Kerasal?
@TheSalonLife10 ай бұрын
Sure, but they do completely different things. Jojoba plasticizes the nails and it’s an emollient. Kerasal has urea and salicylic acid so it’s moisturizing and keratolitic (exfoliated the skin). Urea also protects the skin and helps to repair the skin barrier.
