My technique I learned while taking print classes, is to change the image to CMYK (you need the black channel to make effective color corrections), never color correct in RGB. Bring up your info pallet (change to CMYK), Curves pallet next CMYK, use the eye dropper. I would start on the magenta in the image. Click on that magenta cast, you will see a dot show up on the curves line grab that with your cursor and move the line up or down, and you can see the percentage of what you are doing in the info pallet and visually in the image. Anyway, I’m not at my computer, so I can’t really be accurate at what I’m saying. This is all from memory in photoshop CS6. I might try and make a video on the proper way to color correct an image soon. But basically similar to your instructor in this video. Everyone have their own techniques. As we all know, in photoshop there are numerous ways to achieve the same results.

Very good tutorial. However, when you desaturated the model's face, I feel as though you could extend that desaturation out to her arms as well. In the final image, the face looks a bit out of place to the rest of the picture because it doesn't seem to have a "pick up point". Either way, I'll definitely use some of the stuff you've taught here. Great work!

When do you know when to use a levels adjustment vs color balance adjustment vs curves adjustments, vs color overlays, etc when trying to adjust color and lighting? It seems they all pretty much do the same thing with the correct settings selected. Is there a method to the madness or does it matter at all which method you choose?
@gamenetic64268 жыл бұрын
I really want to learn about color correction in histogram. The general color correction. In your website you do any courses about this?

Great stuff! A question as regards making the yellow in the dress pop using the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer - any reason why you did not use the tool that looks like a pointing finger and just drag with it on the yellow of the dress? Perhaps you just prefer doing it a slightly different way.
@tamaramartirosyan87558 жыл бұрын
It´s all really cool and looks great, and very useful, but I still don't understand - if from the beginning the main problem was the white balance - why don't we just start from changing it instead of adding a pile of layers? And only when the white balance looks good, improve whatever else can be improved?

We use Adobe Photoshop CC. Elements is a very tamed down version of Photoshop cc that does not have have nearly as in depth editing capabilities.

I'm getting lost when you grab your color. You say to hit B for brush but I notice it goes to the eye dropper tool where you grab. Can you clarify?

Dustin Johnson when you are in the Brush Tool (B) you can sample colors by pressing and holding "alt", thats why you see the eyedropper tool

at 5:30 the box in the curves layer goes from white to black -- I have watched 5 times and I still can't figure out what is happening there??? please explain! thank you!
@SeanofAllTrades8 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Menchaca He explains in the video. Hit "Command + I" and it inverts the layer mask. That makes everything invisible on that layer. You can then use the Brush tool to paint white over the sections you want that effect to show up on.

u have to click on the mask. with this shorcut u invert things. so u go from white to black on the mask. on a pc ist ctrl/strg +i. in short u make the mask invisible.
