Hi Ben! Thanks a lot for this very helpful video. I am facing some troubles trying to import the excel where I have included the case classification sheet. I am working from mac, and once going to import - classification sheet, it does not allow to open an xlsx file. I tried to save the same file as csv and, even if like this it allow to open it, once imported, no information is 'charged' in Nvivo.. can you help me on this? Thanks a lot in advance, Diana

Hi Diana; save the Excel file a *.txt file and import it as a classification sheet (not a dataset) and that should work. I hope this response is helpful, but do let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Ben Thanks for this. I am experimenting with this to see whether to use Nvivo for the lit review. I imported few refs from Zotero. First difficulty was the import RIS file did not go in the created file under Files in spite of me signposting it. But I could move it once downloaded. Created the cases. With Classifications, similar issues with exel not going in the created Lit Metadata, rather creates its on subfolder, in my case called Title. I tried naming the first line of exel as Lit Metadata, but also didn't work. Any suggestions?

NVivo takes the text in the cell A1 as the name of the classification. You can rename a classification sheet by right-clicking and selecting 'Classification Properties' Once the cases are linked to the classification, it will work regardless of the name. I hope this response is helpful, but do let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

HI, I wonder how to use Matrix for the literature? I dont know how to built the Author under the Case. Could you help to demonstrate it?
@qdatraining11 ай бұрын
The author will be an attribute if you imported your literature from any referencing software such as Mendeley or Zotero for example. You could then use the author as either a row or column in your matrix. If you did not import your literature from referencing software, you would have to set up an attribute for 'Author' and either manually enter the authors for each article or import from the likes of Excel. I hope this response is helpful, but do let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear, many thanks for your help. I used the Mendeley to input the file and code, for instance, the definition of XXX. Then I select all the files and create as cases. Then i copy the Reference under the File Classification and paste into Case Classification. Then I build matrix by selecting colum and row. However, the result is wired. It shows the coding answer but not my coding instead the whole file...Could you tell me which step I did wrong? @@qdatraining

@@archjun6293 Copy and pasting the file classification won't work. You would need to export your file classification to Excel and import it as a case classification linked to the cases. However, a matrix will work with file classifications in any event. The reason we advise making cases is that certain other queries and visualisations will only work with case classifications, so you should be able to put your 'Author' attribute into the matrix against what ever item you wish to intersect with. So, my next question is what are you putting your 'Author' against in your matrix and for what purpose? Once I know this, I should be able to advise what you may have done incorrectly if you are not getting the desired result.

Yes, I exported the file classification as excel and imported it into case classification. But the result is not corrent. My intention is to build matrix showing the definition of each item in column and listing each authors in row. @@qdatraining

@@archjun6293 I'm not clear on what you mean by the definition of each item? Is that code, a file an attribute? And, what are you seeing in the result?

Aside from beginning your demonstration with what you will not do, I found this discussion to be confusing and not straightforward. it would have been helpful to have outlined your presentation not only for your viewer but also for you.
