Thank you Priyanka! The key thing to remember that perfect calorie counting is nearly impossible, so the idea is to use one consistent method. The problem with using apps is that they are never consistent and usually have very poor quality data for indian food and people easily overestimate or underestimate weights of things, but volume is easier for our eyes to estimate

Hey Krish! I started following your content recently. Very well explained and researched. Thank you so much for that. For this particular video, I must say I am a bit disappointed. Instead of talking in rough numbers you could have easily chosen the weight of the food item vs calories comparison. Though this is good enough for the beginners, I think that would rule out a lot of myths and make the content accurate which you usually do in other topics. As you know the size of a fist, a bowl, 1 dosa, 1 idly etc everything are subjective and only approximated. Instead talk in terms of gms of a food quantity measured raw and that would make it perfect and easy. Thank you
@krishashok Жыл бұрын
I think you missed the point of the video. Trying to be overprecise is impractical and unsustainable for most average people. That's why we decided to go with simple heuristics like fist etc. The idea here is that consistency of applying that heuristic is more useful than individual precision because the whole idea is to reduce (or increase) caloric intake based on what your goals are. All you need to know is if you are broadly consuming less than yesterday or last week.
@keerthidharj1074 Жыл бұрын
@@krishashok yes I did understand that. You could have mentioned that 1gm or some food has x calories, because from what I noticed people are not aware of that. I myself didn't know until the last couple of years.

Reading nutrition labels is important especially for diabetics. I measure before cooking e.g. I cup of dry moong dal is around has 60 gms , 15 fibre, the cooked content can be 10 servings (1 serving is 6 gms. It helps to keep track of carbs. For a diabetic this is key to know how much carb you can tolerate for one meal based on bs readings. This might still be an estimate but it works well. So when I eat the same thing at a restaurant I cut portions if there are other carbs on the plate. Otherwise we have to rely on multiple drugs and severe complications.

How about Hmong dal pancake? Pesarattu? I heard that is a healthier option than dosa. It has a higher protein and fiber content. I’m sure I exclude other regional dishes as well but that’s why it’s so hard to count calories in Indian food because there are a lot of variables. Is the curry cream best or tomato-based? Maybe it’s tamarind-based. Is Jagger used or not? Spices have hardly any calories and it’s just so tricky. I know this for sure because I grew up in the United States and still live here and I couldn’t find proper nutrition data when I was doing the research project in high school. We had to guess everything because it was nearly impossible defined nutritional data on Indian food.

Though I'm a believer and practitioner of individual identity related to food calories and digestive system but anything is better than the practising something which is beneficial in terms of the layman understanding, speaking with my experience, start with calorie count for 1 to 3 months, you'll learn which food is good and bad and then start experimenting which food is apt for you and which is not by observing your own body and then after 3 months of practice now you know how to eat and what not to eat which is not suitable for your body and lastly calorie deficit is real but you can't count the calories for your whole life, just learn to count for 3 months and brak free from all the countings and just be conscious of what you eating, hope i may benefit someone in their weight loss journey.

@krishashok I have searched and asked around a lot, but still have no clear answer on how I calculate the calories of a food (say 100 grams of chicken breast or medhu-vada) when it is deep fried? Do I do it based on the change in weight of the food that was fried? Or the change in weight of the remaining oil in the pan?

Then this is fucking pointless to measure a food by a unit and say it is not accurate to measure for tracking calorie intake, the whole point of calorie intake is to keep track of what goes in the body, so we can control it later or be aware of that approx number. I sure have a tough time logging my South Indian foods in myfitnesspal or any other app, but I log it in a way I keep the log close to the food intake and also keep in mind to keep the number on the higher side to take into account of all the misc calories. On top of that, do you guys even confuse us with a fist as a new unit? I also want to want to do with the macronutrients and blah blah? In the end, according to your logic, nothing is calculable in the first place. Thanks for helping A LOT! P.S. I'm currently dieting by calorie counting and the rage is obviously from that, thanks for putting up with me. Love you.
