Thanks! I have been subscribed to your channel for some time now and I appreciate your help to learn more about car's of my youth as well as current ones. I had not heard anything about error car's, but this is mostly nostalgic for me. Solomon's credited with the phrase there is nothing new under the Sun. You have reinforced those words! If something is expensive surely more of them will occur. Had you heard the story of a few gold coins produced after the US had ceased production in the 1930's something like 8 were made by unscrupulous mint workers and the Federal Government went to great lengths over the span of much time and got them back. I think that the story of Sysyphus is what those who purposely fake a defect deserve, instead of a lot of extra money.

Tuff to watch this video being an error collector. I have purchased a few fakes myself. Odds are if someone is asking a lot for an error, it's probably fake. Or if the error seems to crazy to be true. Despite the risk of fakes, I still buy second hand but only from people I trust. Even in the best attempts, reglued blisters are still easy for me to spot in hand. In buying fakes I have learned how to better spot them for next time. Sad that people do this, and sad that real collectors have to make videos to call it out. Thanks for the video...

I didn't read every comment so I may be repeating something, but even changing the color of a windshield can be done. It's especially easier on zemac cars or black and dark colored cars. Once the car has been removed from the pack you car dip it upside down in some Rit dye making sure to completely submerge the clear plastic. The dye will "stain" the plastic and may also dye paint and tampos. Buyer beware.

I have a Pearl & Chrome VW T2 with orange chrome wheels in back but silver chrome wheels up front. They are tucked under the fenders, so I would think it would be pretty difficult to counterfeit. Another is a half chromed wheel. Have a couple that the blister is hanging off the edge of the card from being applied off center. Have several casting errors with extra material and some missing material. Not really sure how to value them.

I've only ever purchased one "error" car. After watching this video, I'm not so sure it's authentic. It was a few years ago and the car was a green Twin Mill from the 2013 HW Workshop series advertised on eBay as an error missing the chrome on the right rear wheel. It turns out that it did have a little bit of chrome on it, maybe ¼" or so. I never looked closely at the packaging until after watching this video, but if it is a fraud, they did a really really really bad job of lining up the blister on the card as it overhangs the right edge of the card. But there's no evidence of residual glue on the left side and all the lettering and other graphics are perfectly aligned. Fortunately I only paid $3 for it so if it's not authentic, I'm really not out a whole lot. The way the graphics line up and the fact that it does have a little bit of chrome lead me to believe that it maybe is authentic, but as mentioned earlier, now I'm not completely sure.

I bought one at Wal-Mart where the rivet was broken so the front end was all screwed up, still in its blister. Any good or not?

Go back to school! For it to be racism, it has to be about his race. Judging by the name, he's Hispanic and therefore a Caucasian. So you are saying that Kevin is being racist against a white guy. Dumb-ass.
@92camarors6 жыл бұрын
It is more of a stereotype then racism. In fact you could say it is a stereotype. Also not all Hispanics are Caucasian, which I hope you know.
@sped69545 жыл бұрын
@@92camarors No Hispanics are Caucasian. That's why there are separate terms for them. Spanish people (people actually from Spain) and their descendants, on the other hand, if pure are not Hispanic but instead Caucasian. I actually know one such individual, and he takes offense when he's referred to as Hispanic. I didn't know that's how it was until he told me, and naturally I had to check it out. Now it a running joke between us when I call him white boy lol.

Would you still be able to smell the residual acetone on the package? Might be one way to tell? Acetone stinks, and the odor is hard to get rid of entirely.

I bought a el camino from the store and when I got home I noticed the bottom is way off where it is riveted. The wheels dont line up.with the body. Thought I would keep it because it was different.

Why would I steer clear of errors if they are cool collectibles and are unique from the rest?

just purchased today from a doller tree, a 1990 blue acura nsx with a chunck of metal in the front wheel well (from casting I assume) that bent the front wheel noticeably, also had same small wheel in the back as it did in the front. i already have 3 of this same car and compared when I got home. one of my other Acuras had a small chunk of metal missing from factory molding on the side skirt area. I didn't notice at first because I just look at/collect cars I like (a lot which have no real value). I also have the new Lamborghini with a double tampo of the logo on the side of the wing, i bought 2 and one happen to be the error, didn't notice untill days later. if I do buy errors I buy only from the retail store, with errors that are more rare and harder to fake.

i got a Aston Martin 0ne-77 it has a bend on the hood and the plastic base is not properly aligned with the interior making it bloat under. no rivet manipulation. do you think its one of a authentic error?
@ericmcginnis20976 жыл бұрын
I found and purchased the car culture mclaren and once i got home i noticed its missing the interior which also makes the side panels. Also before i started collecting i bought my son a ford torrino it has something that looks like a rubber band running threw it. Its pretty obvious that its authentic but could be reproduced if you reriveted it but the rubber band comes out between the back windshield and the rear decklid

By chance I came across your hot wheels video (I don't have an interest in them, nor do I collect, buy or sell them). It was an interesting expose on how some people manufacture fake product defects in order to sell that "special" product. I couldn' resist and had to check ebay. I found a corvette that was the same as yours except for the color and it was missing the tampo on the side, no doubt faked the same way you demonstrated. There were other ones for sale with different "factory defects", all of which could have been created as you described.

So I got a hot wheels Acura nsx in red a few months ago and it had the entire top plastic windshield and roof put on the car backwards and I'm assuming that's pretty rare because I can't find any other ones like it online (I bought it at toys r us so it was not fake) but my being stupid opened it and tore up and destroyed the entire thing trying to fix it, how much would it have been worth if I left it in the package?

I've found one error in the store. It was a convertible mustang with no windshield. What I find most commonly are packaging errors. I found one with the wrong car for the package and another with the car in it's blister backwards (I think I have one in the blister upside down as well). The neatest one I found is the car and what looks to be a small piece of plastic wrapper from what looks like was probably candy. It's got Asian writing on it, so I'm guessing as to what the piece of wrapper was from. Anyways, I don't know if it's just the repeated use of acetone as shown here, but the paper card looks waffered and wavy along the bottom edge where you applied the acetone. Of course I don't collect Hot Wheels nor do I sell them in any kind of collect to sell or trade type of thing. I buy the ones I like and any Treasure Hunts I find. If I see a car error or packaging mistake in the store I might buy it for the amusement factor. The ones I like the most go on the shelf. The others go in a box which my kids will have to deal with someday, LOL.

I didn't catch any tips on how to tell if a blister has been tampered with. Is there any residual odor left on the cardboard backer from the acetone?
@baremetalHW8 жыл бұрын
No, the acetone evaporates completely... there is not any good way to tell if the blister is has been tampered with that I know of.
@SpamMeGooglification6 жыл бұрын
Wonder if there is an easy/cheap way to see if any acetone/etc was applied to the packaging.

Would an body that hasnt been cleaned up properly be considered an error car. Bought at vw t2 pickup at walmart off the rack and the back part that holds the rivet never got cleaned up and looks kinda cheezie since its all uneven .

Great Video. actually there is a way for the rivets to appear as untouched and to disassemble the while car. Used a Soldering iron which is at least 100 watts in power and place that on the rivet. this will make the rivet expand and make the plastic melt for you to disassemble the car. when you are done with the car, just clean the rivet whole and reheat the rivet to lock the chassis in place.

@baremetalHW I know this is old, but with all those plastic base, isn't there ways to make an error car removing stuff inside of the car while heating up the base and not drilling the rivet?

Wait, error cars have more value? I have a Porsche 956A outlaw that's sideways in the package, and I bought it from smyths.
