Thanks, I followed each step of your video and I am quite pleased with the result of my three court mounted medals though it was not a nice moment when I had to cut the ribbons and release the medals from their original clasps. I look forward to wearing them on Armistice Day, they will look a lot neater than on previous years.

Hi, sorry if this has been asked but in your previous tutorial you stated always do medals with bars first then align from that bit here you say start from the right, also they don't seem to be level which I've learnt from you, they should be, thank you, your a great teacher 😊
@JesterRlP
@JesterRlP Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes you start mounting from the right, but in order to gauge where the bottom edges should be, you take a traditional 36mm medal such as LSGC, OSM, GSM, Iraq medal - and lay it half over the board, half overhanging. That's your bottom medal line right there. All the others' bottom edges should then meet that line 👍

@JesterRlP Thank you so much for replying so quick and with excellent D&G, out of all the tutorials I've seen, you are the best IMO, I just enjoy the way you break every detail down for ease of your viewers, may I ask about the Buckram? I can't find anywhere in the net his to make a Buckram board, I can purchase Buckram but what is it stuck to please?
@JesterRlP
@JesterRlP Жыл бұрын
@@kellyway3564 buckram is also known as pelmet hessian - can normally find it knocking around on ebay. It's basically cut to size, you then wrap black fabric (sheet cotton) around it, trim it at the edges and tack with fabric glue before attaching the ribbons.

Thanks Joe 👍 10 inches will be more than enough when mounting side by side. You'll get to trim it further once you've fed it through the brooch at the back and added the tape. Good luck with yours.

You can re-use the ribbon if you're extra careful removing it and it's not discoloured from glue, tape and dirt. Best to get new ribbon really, though 👍 I mentioned the supplies in thd description to the video.

@@GTH360 if you have 10 then you need this video (link below)... You can get free ribbon from the QMs if you're still serving - or see the tailor and offer them a jar of coffee / biscuits in exchange for 10 inches of each ribbon you need. Failing that, the ribbons are £2 each from messdress.com and the 6 space brooch is around 4.50 ish. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5u6aX-qm953oJI

My apologies, I didn't mean the ribbons, I meant the medals, but now I realized you have to have an overlap otherwise there would be a gap between the ribbons if medals were touching side by side - Sorry

Hi, I just usually pick up the type you get at a stationery shop. The thinner the better (avoid the 3M stuff as it's far too thick / heavy duty).

Hello, quick question if I may. How did you join the two layers of buckram to make it a more solid base?
@JesterRlP
@JesterRlP 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't. I used to when I first started, but a single layer is more than enough - the brooch bar keeps it straight 👍 If you want to use two though, just tack them together with a stitch each corner - the rest of the stitching / fabric etc will hold them in place.

Just the standard craft stuff you get from the Range. Avoid the 3M type heavy industrial tape - the adhesive will eventually seep through, ruining the ribbons
