Thank you for this… I normally just use the basic cake drums, but I want to start decorating the cake drums as part of the whole cake design just to make it look very aesthetic… can’t wait to try this

Thanks so much for the informative video!!! Any tips on how to decorate boards larger than 12 inches? Is fondant the better option?
@IScreamforButtercreamАй бұрын
@@kimiveymakeup0 You could go with fondant if the cake will be fondant. I normally don’t cover boards in fondant if the cake will be buttercream though. I feel like the buttercream can sometimes soak into the fondant on the board and sometimes discolor it or dissolve it. That might not happen for everyone but it’s happened to me before. The other option is to just piece together scrapbook paper then cover with clear contact paper. Or find a wide roll of wrapping paper and then cover with some clear contact paper. I’ve done both options and they’ve worked for me.

Thank you for the video, it is very helpful! Have you ever tried using patterned contact paper only, when the design fits with your cake? I hope that makes sense
@IScreamforButtercream2 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve used the regular or patterned contact paper as well.

Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!! So much. This is awesome. I don't have to use fondant anymore and like you said you have more options to use to cover the board and its cheaper. Will definitely use it for the wedding cake I am decorating. Once more thank you so much for sharing. God bless.

Just came across this great tutorial. Where do you buy the foam core cake boards?
@IScreamforButtercream3 жыл бұрын
I like the ones from Global Sugar Art. They used to have their own website but I think they just sell on Amazon now. There are other brands of foam core boards on Amazon as well.

Isn’t clear contact paper vinyl too? Is it good safe?
@IScreamforButtercream3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what it’s made from but the cake won’t sit directly on it. The cake sits on a cake board. The clear contact paper just covers the very bottom cake base to make it grease proof.

Is this method food safe? Like is contact paper food safe?
@IScreamforButtercream3 жыл бұрын
The contact paper provides a grease proof coating so that no grease or oils from the cake soak into the paper you covered it with. Cakes generally do not sit directly on the larger cake base but should sit on a cake board the same size as the cake. So for example and 8 inch cake will have an 8 inch cake board under it and that will sit on the larger cake board..therefor the cake will never really be sitting directly on the contact paper.

@@IScreamforButtercream thank you so much for the quick reply! It’s because I’m make a buttercream covered letter cake so I’m trying to figure out what the best method would be for me, I’m deciding between a fondant board, doing this, royal icing, or trying to paint the board with homemade edible paint (I’m trying to make the board green) Edit:it’s actually a number cake and I’m trying to figure out how to keep the board clean either trying to cut a board to size of the letter and building on that or putting a layer of white chocolate under the bottom layer to prevent “grease”/oil transfer
@IScreamforButtercream3 жыл бұрын
@@sady1139 oh gotcha. I did a cake like that and ended up just making myself a template for the letter and cutting out a board in that shape. It was a pain but I felt better about it being on its own board.
@sady11393 жыл бұрын
@@IScreamforButtercream okay thank you! Cause I’m trying to figure out the best method but I find all the other ones more risky cause a nick or a spill or something and it’s pretty much ruined, even covered in chocolate could get scratched! I’ll be sure to cut out my own board, thank you so much for the replies, even on a video from years ago! I really appreciate it!
