Looking for a vintage look to this classic model but requiring a little more resilience for this radio assist conversion.

Thank you for continuing live, I learned so much more watching you work instead of pausing it and coming back. Great video

Great experiment, looked great to me. Last time I used Dope was years ago with a Rubber Band Engine Spit. Great stuff Mark 👍🏻

I'm about to start finishing the wings on the Sopwith Triplane, the wings are already covered with Doculam so I think I'll put some tissue on with glue stick and water shrink It and then decide if I'm going to use dope or varnish, looks very nice Mark 👍

Brilliant. Love the sliding hatch. Great job with the doculam and water shrinking the tissue. Been watching your colleauge Mark Robinson doing it. I was shouting NOooooo! at the screen when you hit it with the thinned dope but it's come out lovely. What happened to "test on a small area first" 😯🤪 Seen as you had the lam and the tissue drum taut already I presume a spray can of clear acrylic or even water based polyurethane varnish would have worked? Delighted to get another 1/2 hour this evening in this excellent series.

Thanks, I know it was rather reckless to just jump in but to be honest I think I might have backed off if I had only done a small patch as it looked rather grim 😂. Ive seen varnish applied directly through the tissue without pre shrinking and it always results in an "orange peel" finish I wanted to avoid that so I used dope (I have lots of it too). It might be worth shrinking with water first then applying vanrish as a test. 😊

It will work mark..I covered my comet clipper jr in clear so lite( no longer available) used the uhu glue stick for the tissue, and butylrate dope over the tissue...worked like a charm..❤

He said he used 'shrinking' dope not butrate - so how does acetate shrinking dope stand up to diesel fuel ?
@Tom-wl9sx9 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, think it's looks nice. Will try by myself, also have alot of dope🙂

Great video Mark , I’m thinking of using the same for a KK Ajax , could I ask how thinned the dope was ? I normally thin 50/50 with cellulose thinners
@MarkCroucherRC4fun15 күн бұрын
That's about what I aim for.

I guess you can use any thickness of doculam you like ?
@MarkCroucherRC4fun4 ай бұрын
Yes its available in a wide range of thickness I also believe it's available in a matt finish which will take paint!! 😁
@ericwillis7774 ай бұрын
@@MarkCroucherRC4fun so you are saying that, like you did, you can use any thickness you like ?

@@MarkCroucherRC4fun All I can get is 10 mil doculam - will that be OK ?

Mark, if you you tube happy r/c dude,he has a 5 part series where he uses water based poly urethane applied to silk over plate glass.he squeegees it in to the silk, then uses the wbpu on the framework and irons the silk to the balsa ..give it an eye..
@MarkCroucherRC4fun9 ай бұрын
Ill check it out thanks 👍
@MarkCroucherRC4fun9 ай бұрын
Just checked it out interesting, a fellow club member covers in tissue then silk as he says the weave on silk is very open. He did say that if you use dope it gets brittle with time. The polyurethane could solve this. Check my video out on using dress lining as a covering kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ7MdoyFmch4ba8si=hqE673eNa5S9cHYz

Yes, back in the old days so I read , modelers would add a few drops of castor oil in the dope to act as a plasticiser...I have never tried it..
@ronaldrose68859 ай бұрын
It should work on the polyester dress lining as well ..I always watch you builds...Robinson,and Harvey as well .❤

I see that as you cover, the printed numbers are still visible on the ribs. Do you usually remove them, if so how? How do you remove the burn marks from laser cutting?
@MarkCroucherRC4fun9 ай бұрын
I have removed the markings on the fin by sanding them out however the ones on rhe ribs are not visible as the covering is not fully transparent
