Just a clarification- Felix is using edible linseed oil here (also known as flaxseed oil). “Boiled linseed oil,” which is used mostly for furniture finishes, contains solvents and drying agents that are not food-safe (nor drink-safe). So you can’t use “boiled linseed oil” on anything that will be in contact with food or drink.

Great job, Felix - and I guess you invented the true and only Swiss Viking tea horn ... 😁 Or maybe the Vikings used already to drink tea? Who knows ... I'm just imagining that on their way to America some lost Vikings took the wrong way and accidentially reached India. Must have been in early Viking days, otherwise these guys would have maybe even brought coffee from India which was only later introduced there by Baba Budan who smuggled 7 raw beans from Mocha, as some say. Joking, of course. Linseed oil is absolutely fine, and in case it vanishes over the time you can always apply a new layer. And if you carve a nice lid from some wood and embed the horn into a piece of sheepskin, fur inside, you have even a perfect thermos bottle! Best regards, Robert

The more Rum you drink out of it the better it works. Walnut oil and mineral oil will work too. But good rum removes it too. The outside will shine if you use Neatsfoot oil. I polished the outside with buffing compound to maintain the natural look of the horn. I cut the tip off and added an oak wood stand to the bottom. The next project is making a horn from a horn.😅🤣😂 Beautiful looking project. 🙂

Exciting project! The trick with ants is amazing! I would like to add some comments if you don't mind. Next time instead of Alnatura linseed oil use linseed oil for painting from an artist's store or from Amazon. Alnatura oil contains vitamins that slow down the drying process. Oil for oil painting dries much faster.

Hey Felix! You could have skipped that rum step, and saved the rum to drink. Most denture tablets are anti-microbial. You disinfected the horn when you used that tablet to clean it. Those tablets are also great for cleaning stains from coffee/tea pots and cups. As a dentist, I have been using these tablets for years to clean my stovetop Moka pot with no scrubbing. Thanks Felix!!

U actuall dont use Rum or strong spirits to kill bacteria if you have used dentaltabs its more to get rid of the last foul taste that can be present just after cleaning.

Felix, I could never do this. After 2 or 3 horns of that rum I would put my eye out! How dull did your blades get from the scraping and would the back of the saw blade work as a scraper if you were careful about accidentally cutting yourself with the teeth? I was just thinking that it would be good to save the edge on the blades, if this was a real survival project, as opposed to a fun weekend campfire project. Another really fun looking project.

Super Projekt!
