I brought my new puppy home 2/1/2022. Watched your videos on crate training and the technics worked. Her name is Poppy she is a 10 week old Russel Terrier. First night she cried for about and hour, second night about 30 min, Last 3 nights went in her crate never made a sound till morning. Thanks Michele I used all your suggestions.

We got our 7.5 week old shih tzu two weeks ago. She's doing well in her crate and connected playpen. I even purchased a 2nd nylon mesh playpen for living room. Work in progress. Snuggle pup was huge so I switched to small monkey. I play quiet classical and worship music. She loves it.😀💕

I got one of those snuggle puppies a few days ago ready for when I get my puppy. The snuggle puppy came with a heat pack too that is put inside the teddy. I'll bring it with me when I'm picking up the puppy and try to get the mother to sit with it.

I can’t thank you enough. I got my puppy on Sunday & he was having trouble w crate. I followed your tip of using a card board and covering his crate, playing the in and out game and puppy music. He whined a little bit but he is not howling! I am so happy and will keep it up. A question for you and I hope you see this, when he needs to go outside he cries and I say “outside” he stops whining and so I put on his collar and take him out. I have heard not to touch him but to give him a treat if he goes outside & bringing him back to his crate. Should I be doing the in and out game every time I take him out and bring him back in?? Or after he goes outside put him in the crate and just continue to play the music while he cries? I hope this makes sense. Because I don’t want to give him too many treats every time he goes outside. But I will two to three times a day play the in and out game w him through the day and not only at night!

So I know you have said not to leave puppies alone with stuffed toys? I was wondering if the snuggle puppy is different for some reason..thanks 😊
@HowToTrainADreamDog10 ай бұрын
Usually around 10 weeks of age we start to notice the dogs begin nibbling on the snuggle pup (not all dogs but most) so for that reason, we would not leave the snuggle puppy in the crate, either.

I have a question about covering crate. Should the crate be covered any time my pup is in there OR only when he is going to go to bed?
@HowToTrainADreamDog3 жыл бұрын
We want to stay consistent, cover each time pup goes in. It really helps cut down on stimuli that can keep your pup from settling down.
@sophiatorres64183 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you! Also, I know you said absolutely no bedding. How about a towel?

Great video! We lost both of our dogs within 3 1/2 weeks in Aug and Sept. We’re currently fostering a 9 month old Golden, she’s potty trained and very well behaved. My problem is we don’t know if she was crate trained. She will go in it and doesn’t seem to have any issues but we’ve been reluctant to close the door and leave her. We thought we were only going to have her for a couple of weeks, but’s it turning into months. So far we just take her with us everywhere we go, but with the holidays fast approaching we’ll have things we need to do without her. Should we approach crate training the same with her as we would an 8 week old puppy?
@HowToTrainADreamDog Жыл бұрын
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your two fur babies. We know how heart breaking that can be. As far as approaching crate training as if she were an 8-week-old puppy, yes! That's exactly what we recommend! Play crate games, build a positive association, and keep your expectations low!

My puppy slept through the night from 9 weeks old through 10 weeks old. Now suddenly at 11 weeks he’s waking up in the middle of the night whining to go outside. Any idea why he’s suddenly regressed?

When I have to leave for work would you recommend closing the crate or putting a metal playpen around he crate? I will definitely be trying the do sounds xx
@HowToTrainADreamDog3 жыл бұрын
Closing the crate. Too much space to play in, especially in your absence, leads to accidents.

I can’t even leave my dog for 2 seconds on his own :( he has become 5 months old and broke his leg unfortunately. I couldn’t use a crate as it was forbidden for him to step up on his leg and jump and this is what he only does in the crate. I’m afraid it can’t be teachable again as we missed the imprint period.

When can i stop using the crate. When he’s older?
@HowToTrainADreamDog3 жыл бұрын
We think of crate training as a life skill. In the event there's an emergency, post-surgery, or relocation to a new place, a crate can really provide comfort and safety to a dog.

My puppy seems to really hate the snuggle puppy. She attacks it. 😢
@HowToTrainADreamDog2 ай бұрын
You might find it works better to put the Snuggle Puppy on top of the crate. She can still feel the vibration of the heart beat but won't have access to attack it.
@theturninggate2 ай бұрын
@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thanks. I did try that, but she seems really to not like it. Larger problem, she panics badly whenever the crate door is closed. And so I've been letting her sleep in the play pen -- and she's been great about not having accidents in there, while I've been diligent about potty breaks. Meanwhile, I've been trying to build positive association with the crate during the daytime -- playing games, serving meals, etc. in the crate -- but she still freaks out about it. My main worry is she will eventually be large enough that she'll be able to leap out of the play pen.
