Beautiful. Thank you. I have learned much from watching your videos. You make it look so easy and have a master eye for scale. My wife gifted me my very first bonsai about 18 months ago. I now have 7 in my collection, some of which I have created myself using techniques from your videos. I find this new hobby very therapeutic and peaceful. Thank you for your encouragement and generosity in sharing knowledge. It’s a wonderful gift. Arohanui from New Zealand.

Prune it back hard so that it creates secondary branches low which will encourage thickening. Plant it in the ground in spring and fertilize it hard for 5 years till it is nice and thick. You can do some pruning during this time but mainly let it grow so it can thicken. Then dig it up gently and plant it in a bonsai pot. Allow it to strengthen. In fall when the leaves have fallen off you can wire it.

Hello, I would like your opinion, I made a air layering in a pine tree native to my area, it is working, but it has little root. Do you think I should put it in the pot now at the end of that month, or wait for next spring? I am afraid to leave for next spring, and the harsh winter from where I live, will kill the roots because this air layering is in nature.
@peterchan31006 жыл бұрын
Pines dont air-layer as a rule. The only pine that can be propagated by air layering is the Five needle Kokoeno Pine. Dont waste your time on any other pine. They will never root.

Can you make a Bonsai tree out of a Calamondin Orange tree? If so, how?
@tayh36455 жыл бұрын
Yes but it's not a straightforward process. Start by potting it in a HUGE container, the biggest you can manage to move around by yourself. Then while you wait for it to grow do a lot of research on developing trunk taper, bonsai basics, and (since I'm guessing it's probably grafted) how to take cuttings and do approach grafting (to develop a new nebari and get rid of the rootstock ) don't worry, you'll have tons of time to study before the tree is anywhere near ready to be put in a bonsai pot. Good luck.

When using that metall root claw, aren't you stripping use ful roots of their bark too much? I'd use chop sticks instead, a tad gentler to the roots in my mind.......
@THCforus6 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Stensrud You guys need to stop worrying about what seems like aggressive tactics this man uses. That rake is made for that very purpose. To free the roots from the soul quickly. Bonsai is created from stress. They are bound, wired, put in small pots to restrict root growth and pruned back aggressively to produce smaller leaves. This man knows what he is doing.
