The free dos Rufus puts on the USB has a handful of commands. It's designed to give the minimal DOS environment to launch a program like a legacy BIOS flash, or some other utility that was originally designed to work with DOS. If you want a full scale DOS environment your going to have to download it somewhere.

Thanks for the detailed info on how to create a DOS Boot USB drive, all the other tutorials did not tell which file system and cluster size to use, I could not select 32 so I chose 512 and that worked also. Now my Laptop's BIOS is up to date.

It booted but won't run bios update on the same drive. Command prompt Showed c/: tried the drive it was on cd l/: nothing....

The Rufus does not come with anything and everything I try to add says incorrect version of dos but Rufus wont say what version it uses.

Hello Sedique Sedi , If you need to create a bootable USB with windows 10, I created a video for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5TbhKWLmrSoobc Now, if you need just a bootable USB that will work on most computers, you dont need an ISO file, just the follow the step in the video. I honestly don't get any of this stuff at all, like what if your system doesn't has a OS at all. Must you do the DOS first? And if you do the DOS first, wouldn't that cause problems then? Cause it states that it needs windows this or that first in order for it to work. So which order do you go first? Reason why am asking is cause of this. I got a new CPU and such, and the computer that I do have doesn't have a OS at all installed it. So do I first install the OS and then the DOS or do I do the DOS first and then OS?

Hello, The tool used in the video called "Rufus" needs to be installed/run on Windows (7,8 or 10), in order to create the DOS USB. If your new computer does not have an OS, proceed to install Windows on it and then create the USB or you can create the USB on another Windows machine. Hope it helps Thanks for the comment

Hello Michael, I created a new bootable DOS USB with the latest Rufus version: 3.8 after I saw your comment. I did that on a Win 10 computer and a 16 GB San Disk USB flash drive, I did it twice but I can still see the the 2 autorun files as in the video.....What comes to my mind is that those 2 files in your case MAY remain hidden. Just test the bootable USB to see if it works. Thanks for the comment!

Hello Clap, That's an Asus Motherboard. I've never upgraded the model you have. Hello Logan, The password you don't remember is the Windows password or Bios password? For the windows password you can check this video in my channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ3IdKmka5edlck For the Bios password on a Laptop most of the times you can't reset it, not even removing the Cmos battery. A solution that might work is, I've never done it on a Lenovo, type the password 3 times incorrectly and the system will give you a code. Type that code on google along the laptop's model and manufacturer. There is the possibility that you can find a general Bios password for your model, but again, that's not always the case....... Hello Dillon, That happened to me a few times while recording videos. Sometimes it's the USB brand, I'd try another USB flash drive. On other occasions the problem was the physical USB port where you connect the USB flash drive, try another port on the computer. Finally, while creating the Free Dos USB something goes wrong and it ends up with errors even though it completed the process successfully, create it 1 more time. Hi, Something that you can try is to remove your win 7 hard drive, connect it to another computer as an external disk and see if you see your files/pics/docs etc to copy them somewhere else. Hope it helps Ty for the comment

arghh i cant get my window tablet to boot from usb or external cd. this happen after i delete the c: partition because i didnt want to deal with the bitlocker key thing i rather just erase the whole drive. now in bios there is only 1 thing in boot order which is either CD or USB depends on what i plugged in. but nothing happens it always return to the bios screen! i have no operation system i cant get any thing to boot please help!! I even try this rufus dos, nothing works.

Hello U P. Since you mention bit locker I would say that your tablet is configured to boot as "secure boot". This is a common configuration for some years now due to security . Now, bootable USBs are normally configured the old way. Check in your BIOS if you find, normally under the boot and security tab, "legacy" or "legacy boot". If you do, you will need to disable "secure boot" and then enable "legacy boot". Also you may need to change the boot for USB to be the first. Depending on your Bios, this might take a few more or a few less steps. That's what I think is happening. Hope it helps. Thanks for the comment!
