How to Create a Custom Frames for Canva using Canva and Powerpoint

I have had several people reach out about Canva's SVGs not working... to resolve this issue use convertio.co/ to convert your PNG into a SVG to resolve this problem

I AM SOOO HAPPY TO REPORT THAT I FOLLOWED THESE STEPS ON MY WINDOWS (with Microsoft Edge) AND IT WORKED OUT PERFECT. I AM SO HAPPY AFTER SPENDING A SLEEPLESS NIGHT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS FANTASTIC DESIGN. I WILL CONTINUE TO TRY WITH MY MAC. BUT SO FAR I FEEL GREAT. THANK YOU

@@digitalartwithcanva I tried it but it didn't work like yours. When I right clicked and selected the "break apart" option, it change the entire shape to squares. It did not work. Thank you for asking and I will keep trying

@@digitalartwithcanva Thank you for your response. I noticed that in other to make it work with keynote, you have to choose elements in graphics instead of shapes. I tried designing a four pie circle using 4 quarter circles from graphics. Eureka!!!! It worked. Thank you so much .Your help, suggestions are HIGHLY appreciated

Thank you for this great video. However, I am still having difficulty. I am trying to make a frame out of a very simple logo. I have followed all your instructions but do not get the option in PowerPoint to "convert to shape". When I try to fill the shape, it fills the entire rectangle of my graphic rather than the pieces of the logo. I even tried connecting the pieces with a line like you demonstrated and still doesn't work. Any advice you could offer would be appreciated. Thank you!

did download as a SVG from Canva? they dont work... download the PNG take it to convetio.io and convert to SVG then ttake it to powerpoint and see if that works for you

You have to make sure you insert it from powerpoint and not from the very top. I was having the same issue. I also had to use convertio, even though I gave canva pro

Hi! Thank you for the video. I just tried it several times using your exact directions, however, like below, when I insert the image in powerpoint, it makes the image fill the whole letter (I used a "G" to try). At one point I was able to get the G with sections (although it did not pick up one of the lines), but then in canva when I went to insert a pic, it filled the whole letter, not just one section. It recognizes it still as one large image.

@@disguisethesurprise it is Canva's SVGs... a bunch of people have said they dont work for custom frames with powerpoint... glad you got it

@@digitalartwithcanva yes! Curious what you think about putting a border around these elements afterwards. I simply made a copy of the letter and hollowed it with a thin border. Seems to work for a tight frame. I do see some people with an outline that is not directly touching the images...sort of a floating outline. Not sure how to do that

if I am understanding you right... what I would do is.. break up my letter with white lines to make frame pieces of the letters... then each piece should be a frame... if that makes sense

When i did all this and in canva tried to drop a new photo into one of the smaller frames it put the image into the whole shape instead if the small shape. How can i fix this?

hi there. i get to the last step of uploading the PDF to canva and then when I add it to my blank canvas, each element is not its own section/shape. it's still seeing it as one whole shape. help please

did you make multiple frames in one PDF? or did you a element with multiple parts?

@@digitalartwithcanva I used text to write a word. Converted it to an image rather than text. Made all my lines to split up the sections. Downloaded it as png and converted to svg. Added to PowerPoint. Converted to shape. Saved as pdf. Upload to Canva. Then when I select to add to canvas, it drops in as individual rectangles of each letter as a whole rather than broken up into all the pieces I created with the lines. I then thought maybe it was because I used a word so I tried all the steps with circles, basically exactly like your video and it didn’t work either.

@@digitalartwithcanva yes, but it fills the whole word with the same image. Which I can’t tell from the video if that’s what happens for you also since it’s a stock photo and it’s hard to tell if it’s filling each part of the wheel separately or it’s filling it as a whole.

Oh my goodness.... it should be there in the upper left corner once you upload the SVG into PowerPoint... did you use Canva to make your SVG? if so try using Convertio like I did in the video to convert the PNG to SVG... I have had some people have trouble with the Canva SVGs

I dont think so... been playing around to see and dont see a way to do it... there is no conversion to make it a fillable shape.... but if you have Pro you might have more bells and whistles than I do and maybe there is a way... I might not have that option

try this... I just had someone have the same issue.... she downloaded her element as an SVG from Canva and it did like you said.... she tried doing the PNG and converting it in Convertio and it work perfectly... maybe a Canva SVG is not a true SVG... i dunno
