Using the sun position calculator with the get sun position node gives real life sun positioning with longitude and latitude. Or use a vector curve to position the sun a little more like the real sun does. Just for possible future updates. I personally use the plugin as this gives me a really perfect sun position.

Hey, thanks a lot for the tutorial, but there's a couple of issues which I think many people here can agree with. 1. Why does it look like the darkest the sky-sphere can reach is like evening-ish / 20:00? How can I get it to become more pitch-dark? 2. Is there any way to make the clock more in sync with the actual day-night? At first I tried to embrace the slight error and think of it as similar to clock changing due to seasons, but it became messed up at some point, no matter how close I got to the value, I would still end up with sunsets at midday or sunrise at 1 am. The even more annoying thing is that once I got some good value, the margin of error was reasonable enough (sunrises at 4 am only occurred after ~30 days). Is there a way to find the actual calculation? Other than that, great video, I really appreciate it and your channel in general

@daniels41853 жыл бұрын
I ended up duplicating the material that my ground was using so that I could make it double sided (one side by default is transparent, hence why the light comes through). Open up the material and under details check the box for "two sided". After this it worked mostly correct, however trees that have roots going through the floor received some light. So to fix this I had to add a platform below the map to block the light shining on the root objects. You'll see what I mean if you don't make a platform underneath. Maybe someone more advanced can show us a better way, but for now that works lol.

Hi Matt, as someone else has mentioned 'night' only seems to trigger for a short period of time based in printed strings during the cycle meaning it only becomes properly 'dark' right before 'dawn' should be. I had the same problem with other users where the Sun at noon time (-90 degrees rotation) doesn't move when my speed variable in the level blueprint is set anywhere between 0.1 to 0.3 float. After playing around a bit I found a very simple and weird fix. All I had to do was set my Sun rotation from -90 degrees to -89 degrees. Somehow this will make sun move and read accordingly to the float speed variable I set in my level blueprint. So now my sun actually moves correctly to the 0.1 speed I set. I have no idea why this works, but thought I'd share my solution if anyone else is having the same problem.
@Zygerboy4 ай бұрын
this is an amazing tutorial and very simplified. But, I have notted a slight problem with the speed when I changed from 30 - to - 1 or say 2.5 after the sun set the sun never rise up again? but when 5 to 30 the sun behaves exceptionally but as I reduce the speed to 1 that's it the sun never rise again. Is there any fix for this? I really would appriciate your help in this!

Just wanted to share a little mini addition I made to the day/night cycle. First I need to explain how my D/N system works. Using the system here I originally was setting up my day night cycle to be unique and dynamic to when you play the game. Example being if you play the game at night in game it will be nightime and if you play it during the day it will be daytime. The issue I was encountering was there wasnt a real way of going about to make a real 24 hour dynamic D/N system so I had to improvise. In the level blueprint you create a UTCnow node and hook this up with an add maketimespan this way you can change your time zone by changing the hours. Use 0 for UTC timezone. Use -5 for EST timezone. From here you want to drag out your hours and get 24 Equals nodes and set each from 1 - 24 each for every hour. Now out of each of these 24 EQUALS nodes you want to create 24 BOOLEAN nodes and hook the false nodes up together. For each Boolean node create a DO ONCE node and hook each DO ONCE to the TRUE slot of your BOOLEAN nodes. ALMOST DONE!!! Now you want to is take your Sun aka Directional Light Veriable in the Level blueprint and get 24 set actor rotations and hook one up to each do once node. After you can hook each end of your set actor rotations up to your Day Night Cycle Cutom event we created in the video and the first boolean node should be hooked up to your Begin Play node. Now that everything is set up I can explain a little more. This setup allows for the sunspeed to continue allowing for the sun to move after setting its rotation insted of focreing your sun to sit in a static place and not move. Each set actor rotation allows for you to set a specific starting location of your sun depending on the time of day. I havent experimented with the system to much yet so I am unaware if there are any bugs but I hope this helps someone and I may even end up doing a mini tutorial to better show and explain the addition to the system.

The math for daylength is not working for me so I assume there is some error. I goth another equation that seems to work. Also now, to correctly fix the solar time to the displayed time you divide by 2 the value you get from speed*World delta time. I don't know why I have to divide by 2, so if anybody can offer an explanation I would appreciate it. Short answer: Speed = 360/(Time elapsed in real-time in seconds) the units would be (degree/(s)) Long answer: For the result to be fps independent you multiply for World Delta seconds as shown in the video, which has seconds as its unit. What we want is to know the speed the sun rotates so we can update its position in each passing frame. As the sun goes around 360 degrees we can just divide it by the time elapsed in real-time in seconds. Example: If I wanted a day to last 1 real-time minute it would be 360/60=6 Additionally, for the next video for the timer, he multiplies Deltaseconds*Speed*240 to get the seconds that have passed in-game. That is because he divides a 24h day (in seconds) by 360, so 86400/360=240 The units would be Deltaseconds(s)*Speed(Degree/s)*240(s/Degree) the resulting value would have the units (s) (s) = seconds

@nikolistary2 жыл бұрын
@@keenow0031 Thanks for your reply, where exactly is this Light Source you mention? Inside the Blueprint? I can't seem to find it.
@keenow00312 жыл бұрын
@@nikolistary So at 1:44 in the video, he sets his main light source in the World Outliner, called "Light Source" in his file, to -90, so it always faces straight down. For whatever reason, a straight -90 on your light seems to set the light into some sort of gimbal lock when it's calculating the rotation at the bottom of the map at slower speeds. If you set it to something not a perfect -90, like -90.1, it should be able to calculate past the gimbal lock and come back up to a sunrise on the next day. Light Source = whatever your main light or sun light is called. In my file, it's just called "Directional Light". It's the name of the light that you are rotating as your Sun.

Run it on a multicast event?

About the day length in seconds, actually the formula is (DayLength/5)*100=speed. It's the inverse of getting the day from the speed (which you showed up being (100/speed)*5=DayLength )

First, thanks Matt for your video ! I'm agree with you Pedro, there is a prb with the invert formula, but are you sure this last one is really correct. Because for me, the equivalent formula for DayLight = (100/Speed)x5 is Speed=(100x5)/DayLight :) For example : if Speed=30, DayLight=(100/30)*5=16.66 so for the invert formula we have Speed=(100x5)/16.66=30

Weirdly, my SkyLight don't seem to "follow", it decrease intensity only when sun is like at 12am, get to 0.01 when sun is up again (like 8am), reincrease when its past midday XD

Don't use delay and get world delta seconds together, it can't possibly work properly (unless you luckily hit framerate with your delay). Use delta seconds only in tick functions. Math on speed using tick function is "speed = 360/daylength". Great tutorial otherwise!

Wait so how do I fix it So it’s frame rate independent?

@@byEVxL use tick function or calculate it with the delay instead of delta time

I need your help. When night falls, it doesn't get darker for me. The Darkness only sets in when the sun rises again. So she's relocated. How can I change this so that it's normal and realistic?
@Spartanhoplite5422 жыл бұрын
I have a similar issue. Edit: I changed the angles at which the darkness changes to a number closer to 0. Put a print string in your function with the Light Source yaw angle to test the angles yourself
