@Man vs. History I also noticed that the Hooded "Amador" wool Coat from the Outlaw pass 3, looks very similar to the “Capote” photos you shared. Unfortunately there aren't any colour options like the ones in the photos.
@ManvsHistory4 жыл бұрын
@@kurunzi8614 Yeah, one of the subs brought this up to me, and let me see his character wearing it. Unfortunately you can no longer get it, but I was able to look it over thoroughly. Sufficed to say, it's a capote, but there are some issues with it. According to primary source documents, there were no fringes on capotes, yet the Amador has them on the shoulders. The shoulders also have a strange piece of fabric draping over like a football shoulder pad. This wasn't accurate either. All that said, it's always plausible that some mountain men had these little accents on their coats. It's just that the primary sources tell us they lacked these things. It's also tough because later sketches depicted capotes with fringes and shoulder pads.... which seems to be the artist's addition, or were based on more stylized capotes that might have emerged after the age of the mountain man. Regardless, the Amador is VERY close, and I think the minor issues with it don't overshadow it at all. It's a capote. I just hope, like you said, they add it back in with more colors. Thanks Kurunzi!
@kurunzi86144 жыл бұрын
@@ManvsHistory thank you for the detailed reply, obviously I had no ideas of all those differences you mentioned. After seeing your video I have to admit I decided to give a try on the “Amador” coat for my female Native American character, and came out with a nice “Mountain Woman” outfit. At the time when I saw the jacket in the outlaw pass I wasn’t to impressed, but I have to admit it is now one of my favorite outfit.

On a curious side note, the word Capote is also the name of a old traditional winter style jacket in my home country of Portugal. And in some ways they do look similar and were commonly used by shepherds.

I'd love to hear more about the history of mountain men - what they were doing, why they were there, etc. You mention the time of the mountain man being over by the late 1800's - but what was the time of the mountain men all about!?
@davisdenver67562 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is from a year ago, but I'll answer it anyway in case anybody who sees this reply is interested in the history of mountain men. In 1822, William Ashley posted an ad in a newspaper saying that he wanted 100 young men to go into the unexplored West for beaver fur. Hats made of beaver skin was the hot thing at the time. These mountain men were some of the earliest explorers of the West. In fact, after their career as mountain men ended, some of them got jobs as guides. Some interesting people you should search up are Jim Bridger and James Beckwourth.' One thing the men were famous for was the annual rendezvous. This was where they sold their furs and replenished their supplies. If you want to know what life was like, well, judging from the journal of Zenas Leonard, life was tough. Leonard and his men battled through starvation and Native Americans, and they lost a lot of horses and a few men. Their main source of food was bison meat. Eventually, after a decade or so, the beaver population started to decrease, and people fell in love with the latest trend, the silk hat. The last rendezvous was held in 1840. I hope this helped to sum it all up.

I don't know if you will see this or not but I have a great idea.... A mock pheasant hunt in rdr2 would be a really cool interactive posse activity. it would take about 5-8 players with varmint rifles. Players would form a line and move east to west in the grasslands of West Elizabeth and New Hanover attempting to flush pheasants. players may only shoot a bird in the air. and players should move slowly and as a team. A historically accurate pheasant hunt. Thoughts?

I want to play a step back from the mountain men and do a longhunter like Daniel Boone. But I'm afraid there's no breech cloth option.

But there should be.
