The info on apple has about this says this "Your Legacy Contact has access to your data for a limited time - three years from when the first legacy account request is approved - after which the account is permanently deleted. ". I hope this means that three years after I die, and my legacy contact begins to access my icoud etc. But it sounds like this could mean after I give him my access code. Also, I have an old Apple laptop CERCA 2008, it cannot run the latest, are we out of luck with that????

IS this available for the UK/all countries. My iphone 13 mini running on IOS 16.6.1 does not have a legacy option on that screen.

I don’t understand. Why not just leave the password to your Mac/PC to them? (Or all your other passwords for that matter).

The computer itself is a single point of failure. If there is a fire, flood, earthquake, power surge, theft, hard drive failure, etc. your only source of that information is gone. There is a much better way to transfer that data that would survive any of those scenarios, but it requires the personal touch.

@@TechTalkAmerica You are over complicating this hole thing. There is this thing called a pen and it writes on stuff called paper. Write down your AppleID password and any other passwords and pin numbers a loved one may need when the time comes. No need to deal with uploading a death certificate. Some times low tech is better. I realize this takes away from potential paying customers you want to pay for keyring access, but I don't believe in wanting to profit for information for people preparing for death.

You have a point. But well, when something doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t mean it useless for the others. I think there are people who might gain benefits from this service. Let’s say the data is severely essential, this service ensures that the right person inherits the data. For people who have got many the Next of kins, thing is chaotic. Someone else might try to claim the password or steal from the person you intend to give it to. If pen and paper are enough for you, then stick with it. If you want to try, then try it.
