Next time if possible, I whould choose a tape with less adhesive on it. Tamiyas tape is a good option. There's also painters tape that is made for using on wallpaper I like to use myself. You can usually find it a bit cheaper than Tamiyas if you don't have that option. Good luck!

instead of masking the entire model try sticking the power sword through a piece of plastic (a plastic bag or something )

all the Templar symbols are from the space marine decal transfer sheet, and the shoulder pads are games workshop gunmetal

If masking tape is taking your primer off, then there is something wrong with your primer.
