some notes, convert to parameter makes your texture or coulor into a variable, meaning that when you make your material instance you can change it on the fly.

Any idea why my material will only change if i change it directly in the editor and not if i adjust the values with the instance?

I'm a bit confused why you assigned the B channel of layer 1 to the layer2 height blend? the blend type is based on the specific array element. does it matter or did you do this on purpose?

The B channel stands for heightmap, in Quixel assets the B is used for it.

Are you clicking in selection mode? That should show the material slot in the details panel.
