Nice video. A good description of using matrices as a cross over too. I prefer to use an aux fed sub. With the Wing, I use main mix 2 as my sub feed to the matrix. This way I am only sending what I need in the subs to the subs like my drums, bass, keys and any other instrument or tracks to the subs. By doing this I can increase the sub level of the kick without having to turn it up more or do some drastic eq'ing. Same for the bass. it also gives you a separate send to the subs that you can process before it gets to the matrix. Give it a try, I think you will like it.

@@timringgenberg2844 That used to be my default, actually :) My issue with using an aux is primarily for mixing environments where you have 1 mixer to control FOH, monitors, and broadcast. Aux-fed-subs is essentially a replacement for HPF and low shelf EQs that can have a good impact on FOH but can allow issues to be unresolved in the monitor and broadcast mixes. I give the example of an acoustic guitar with a low hum. In an aux-fed-sub situation, removing the acoustic from the subs via an aux will fix that issue in the house but the hum would remain in the other mixes. By contrast, in a well tuned matrix system, by hearing the hum in FOH and utilizing low cut and low shelf filters, you would remove that hum in all of the mixes connected to the mixer. That’s my philosophy, any way :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! -Chad

Nice vid. Exactly how I set a subs and mains matrix on my M32 6 years ago.

I use a GLD80 and defined my mains as LR-C, then took my C channel and routed it for Subs. Everything goes into a DSP where I apply the EQ and compression before sending to my amps. I can then route the LR to my stream audio.

@@johnmatt5660 This works most of the time. The reason why I personally prefer a matrix in this situation is that it forces me to use my EQs and HPFs to fix low-end issues with my channels and those changes (assuming the system is tuned well) create positive changes for my stream and monitor mixes as well. For example, if a acoustic guitar has a low hum in it. By not sending the mic to the subs bus, you have fixed that hum in the room but it will still exist in the other mixes. However, if you used EQ and HPF on that individual channel, it should remove the hum from all of those mixes. I hope that makes sense :) Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad

Should people make 10 matrix’s instead of 10 auxs then?
