I have PS 2019 and hardly any brushes as default. Just general brushes and a handful of 'KYLE' brushes. I keep watching tutorials on brushes, but like this one, they always start with brushes, unlike anything I have?

I've made some of my own pattern presets from textures I've photographed, but when I use them as layer effects the patterns are tiled into about 6 tiles, is there a way to get the pattern to cover the canvas? Scaling up just blurs it. The original texture was very large so I'm not sure why it looks smaller now

Why is it so difficult to create an easily accessible, textured, painterly brushstroke *to draw with* within Photoshop? (Similar to the thumbnail of this video). The results are always subpar.
