tHE first time i opened M R was purely by accident and the first thing i saw was the icons at the top left " Rescue" and etc. Interruped by phone call, shut down pc and now I can't open to that page again. I see many files listed in M R that have application extensions but its a guessing game. I thought the Reflect file, there are 2, one is application and the other PNG. I chose application and it opens directly to what your showing here in demo...but i do not see Restore or browse and etc. Can u tell me what file or folder would open up M R to that page or the Home page?

Can this be restored from "windows boot manager"? as i have this from on to a USB drive?

At the top go to "other Tasks" and "Create rescue media" and assign this to a USB drive. Then to restore a backup you can use this rescue media loading it from the bios to restore the system to a new drive.

This program is a lifesaver - worth every single penny or cent if you pay for it which I do as I wanted to all the features, I had a real issue with my PC a couple of days back and this program allowed me to restore it to exactly the same spec as before the problem occurred. In fact using this program to restore windows allowed me to configure my machine in a more efficient way than before.

I'm new to Macrium reflect. I'm running Macrium X and trying to recover my laptop after a factory reset. I followed Macrium's recommendations when I first ran it and created a recovery media on a USB stick before creating the system image. I noticed in your case a Win PE environment was created on the fly. I think Win PE/RE was created on the recovery media as well. Do you know where the on-the-fly was written to? If it's on the destination drive, does it get wiped out during the recovery? I fully expected that I would have to use my USB stick to restore the system image.

I don't recall it creating the Win PE environment with the system image. You should have the option to restore your image if you install Macrium on your laptop again and then restore your image. Or you should be able to boot to your USB drive and restore it without doing it from Macrium within Windows.

What I'd like to know, and I haven't seen the answer yet, is whether I can use my existing USB stick Windows 11 install media and repair options to restore? I can do this with "Windows 7 backup and restore" created backups, is it just a matter of choosing the correct image from the external attached HDD?

To restore an image, you can just do so from the program itself. And if your computer dies, you can reinstall Windows and Macrium and then restore the image that way. If you create a recovery ISO or CD, you can boot to that and restore your image as well.

Maybe but you might have an issue if the hardware on the other computer is too different than the original so it's hard to say for sure what problems you might run into.

I don't think so as the computer (which the image is of) will have different drivers and the other computer will require different drivers to function and the computer will not boot because of incompatible drivers installed.

Good video. Had my windows 10 computer HD crash. I purchased a new windows 11 computer & I have the old drive imaged pre-crash on a separate external drive. 7:27 My new computer does not have Macrium Reflect on it. Can I still do a system restore to retrieve all my programs & data, on my new computer?

Its not free anymore but you can still do the 30 day trail and install it on your new computer. Just be aware that the old image will be configured with your old computer's hardware and Windows might complain about it when it starts.

I try to do this I don't get any of this, All I want is to use this program to install Windows onto a certain partition and this is my only option and no other options are available to me.

You don't need this to install Windows. It's made for backing up Windows once its installed. You can choose where to install Windows during the Windows setup process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaPUoaulf9tprdE

It doesn't give me the option. I'm trying image a partition with a backup image. When I try to image it acts like my disc is full and it's reading that based on the space that is taken and not the free space. I'm doing a workaround to get windows on a petition I have Linux on others. At this point this is the only option for me to get windows onto a partition I have no other options, Rufus and other such programs do not work. That is something Microsoft done. Using this program as my only option.

I’m about done with this software. It never completes or throws errors. I end up either a drive with multiple partitions that I have to erase to try again.

How are you running a screen capture program from the computer you are running the backup and restore from? Seems to me the program would quit once the backup is done and the computer is restarted and going thru the restore process. I feel you have not shown us the complete process.

I always use virtual machines for my videos so I don't have to risk causing problems with my main PC.

Thanks for preparing this tutorial. Much better than all the others I found. Question - do you think it would it be okay to use Windows Internet Explorer while Macrium is creating an Image file?

You can technically use your computer while the image is being made but I like to leave it alone to make sure nothing interrupts the process.

Thank you for the video. You demonstrated the case where you restored an image on a drive already in use and the data overwritten by it. What if on the drive where I intend to restore the image, I’m having problems such as windows ones or just viruses? Can I just first format the drive and only after the format, restore the image on it? Will in this case be created all the same partitions like on the image, or like on the drive itself as it was when creating the image?

I haven't tried that but I would think you could format the drive, install Windows and then the Macrium software and then restore your image.

A virus can infect the other partitions, not just C drive.

@@gtm5650 i’m talking about formatting all the hard drive and not only one partition, and after done that restore the image which is found on another memory and allegedly not with viruses.

@@almedogjurgji I know this is not answered but normally a restore program will restore all partitions as it repartitions the drive according to the restore image you are restoring.

You want to be using external media/drives to restore from. If Windows is dead, won't start up, you put in your bootable media that you created (DVD, flash drive, external drive) and if you have not already, enter the BIOS at power on, and designate the media input device as first to try to boot from, before your operating system drive, then let it boot. If prompted to "press any key to boot from (media device), do so. Then you will be in the simplified operating system which can run the restore (and some other) task, as you see in the above video in the restore phase. This way, you do not ever have to actually go into Windows. It is the best way if you want to be able to deal with a machine that can't even boot. Actually, as seldom as I have needed to do it, it is the only way I use, because it is the biggest hammer in my toolbox.

One very important thing that surely many people wanna know is if a back-up image CAN BE RESTORED on A DIFFERENT drive, different brand, different size, different form factor, other than the drive originates from?! That's the most important and critical issue when the imaged drive is damaged beyond repair and the sole remedy is just by having done a previous backup!😮

This is meant for more of a backup of the same computer in case something goes wrong. You should be able to use it for a different drive on the same computer but might have issues restoring your image to another computer with different hardware. @@OnlineComputerTips OK, my question was a backup of particular drive to be restored on a different drive - different size, different brand, different form factor - BUT by no means on different computer, as well. I know already for a fact that a backup of a particular PC configuration will not be the exact match of another PC. I also know that even cloning a drive of a particular PC almost certainly will create problems while trying booting to a different PC and that since any different PC has its own hardware config that surely will be no match with the originating PC

@@vla2uv You should be able to use this with a different drive but of course you will need to get the computer up and running and first with the new drive and install the software on it so you can use it to restore the image. I have not tried this but don't see a reason why it wouldn't work.

@@OnlineComputerTips There's no need to get - the very same computer - up and running first if using one of the programs that has the option of enabling a recovery method on an USB stick prior undertaking the drive back-up operation. That back-up with the recovery tool would suffice to restore the backed-up image to a new drive be it a different size, different brand or different form factor respecting the condition of using it for the same PC and not for any other one, since it won't work! Three cloning and backing-up programs that have the recovery option tool is Aomei Backupper, Lazesoft Recovery Suite and Rescuezilla, but the best of them is Lazesoft Recovery Suite with its recovery tool! There is though one awful experience I had - that's why I know a lot of cloning and back-upping - wanting to clone a SATA m2 SSD to a NVME m2 SSD and my laptop ASUS ROG GL553VE Strix couldn't boot from the clonned drive by no means! The only solution was of a clean install of Win10 Pro operation system to the new SSD! And, in doing so I've tried all and everyone: Rescuezilla, Aomei Backuper, Lazesoft Recovery Suite Macrium Reflect, EaseUS Todo Backup and Acronis and none of them yielded a suitable result to boot from the cloned NVME m2 SSD!

The clone process should make an exact copy of the disk so if you have 2 versions of Windows then it should copy them both. There are many cloning apps you can use too. kzbin.info/aero/PLwdwMLbf_qdYtCnCQyoavA2WBZnD5aYM4

A newbie to Macrium and your video explains it quite clearly. I used Acronis and have set it up to run 2 sets of backup one after the other automatically. Creating my windows OS to an SSD inside my PC and the same image to an external usb drive (a backup of a backup - paranoid of redoing a whole new setup if PC crashes). In Acronis, after i start the 1st backup, i wait for 1 min and then start the 2nd backup and the 2nd backup shows Queued. After the 1st backup is done validating, it will start the queued backup, validates and shuts down my PC when backup i is done. Can this be done in Macrium backup, if yes, is there a documentation on this. Thank you.
