This tutorial shows you how to create animated GPS map overlays in Davinci Resolve and how to sync them with any ride/run/hike footage that you want. No tool for Davince Resolve seemed to exist that allows you to sync a dot on a map to ride footage, so I made this! Let know what you think of it. If you have any issues using the tool or have any ideas for how to expand it, let me know in the comments.

wow an offline tool. this video is so underrated. the title should be more indicative that you made a tool for this than just an average tutorial, much more attractive to me at least if so.

That's cool! Been using 3rd party software to add this to my clips. Now to find a laptimer and lean angle tool and I'm set!

I love to video and the tool that you made! It kinda works for me but there seems to be a little issue with the GPS Animator Tool - it somehow distorts the scale of path that it creates for me. It seems to be twisting the image ratio of the path that it generates. For example I had to zoom paths X and Y dimensions separately to make it match with the map I put on the background. I got it work but it took same time. Anyway, thanks for the cool tool! I'll definately use it in the future!

Ben this is down right fucking awesome! Thanks for putting the time into figuring this out, and making it “Freeware”, again fucking awesome man! I also see the guys down at tower hill just built a fun looking flow line, would be a great showcase of that trail to do all the features and such. Wish I could make their ride weekend, but the ribs are not ready for that yet.

Couple things, you need to promote the hell out of this vid to anyone that makes riding vids, fb groups or whatever, this vid has the content to change KZbin for creators and viewers. This could be a semi viral vid once it gets out to the right people. Second, I gotta share a story about my kid blowing my mind yesterday. So back in the day, fusion 360 used to have invalute gear profiles baked into it(just like threads or any other feature/shortcut), then a few years back the pulled that feature, and made it a subscription based add on. So my boy has been working on a 3d printed character thing from this 5 nights at Freddie’s… and there’s some moving parts he is adding driven by servos. Yesterday I came home to him stating he made a gear, and I was like um ok let’s see it… the little shit found a tutorial, and now knows the basics of invalute gear tooth geometry!!!! I almost SHIT, it’s something I’ve dabbled in, but never bought the cutters for my milling machine to go any further into it. But man, oh man, that made my damn night.

Awesome tool! Super impressive and well explained. Is there any way to get the animated line on a background map?

Are you talking like a route animation showing your start and stop like Google Maps shows kind of on the route preview?

Awesome video!!! I'm having a weird issue where I put in the duration as per my file downloaded but it only animates for half the video and then stops half way.

It’s been a bit since I made that, but if I had to guess I’d say it may be a frame rate mismatch where your video is at 60fps and the animation is at 30. Or maybe vice versa.

huh...follow step by step, especially the frame rate and duration are all correct, but the gpx animation just not sync well with the video that start and end as the gpx recording start and end at the same time. it will vary fast and slow so i can't simply align either. what could be the reason?

If you want to share a link to your gpx file I can take a look to see what’s going on.

Okay, so I've figured it out. The .gpx file needs to have a TIME element included in each data point. When I download .gpx file from my Strava for varying activities recorded on different devices, they all have a element shown when I open the .gpx file with a text editor. However, any Strava route that I download from a friends activity does not seem to include this information. My guess is that this would be for some kind of privacy purposes. Are you getting your .gpx file from your own Strava while logged in to your account?
