How to create Anisotropy materials in Unreal Engine 5 | Substrate Materials Tutorial

Hey there! It is time to add anisotropy to your materials! In this quick video, you'll learn how to activate it and create a tangent texture. You can use it for your new set of brake discs or as the bottom of your pan :)

Hi, great videos! Just a question - the new 5.4 seems to have a different substrate material hiearchy or how you call it, would you consider making a video about the differences? My 5.3 project got all messed up when I upgraded to 5.4 :)

Hey, great content! Can I ask you , are you definitely convinced with substrate or you still use the old material system? I personally went straight to substrate but had a few problems and went to the old system. Thank you and your channel is pure gold

Thanks! It is not finalized yet, so I'm still using the old system for now :) But I think Substrate is a step ahead, more similar to traditional render engines :))

How do you have the displacement input activated in your material when using substrate?

1. open the DefaultEngine.ini file 2. Under [/Script/Engine.RendererSettings] add these two strings: r.Nanite.AllowTessellation=1 r.Nanite.Tessellation=1

How can we completely avoid the stripes with obvious seams made of this anisotropic material...

Open Photoshop, create a noise layer and apply a Spin Blur (NOT RADIAL BLUR; you can find it under Filter/Blur Gallery). Then, convert it into a normal map.
