Dom Sigalas has become my favorite Cubase KZbinr. I have learnt so many useful techniques from his videos and this is one of them. I knew about the Haas effect and I have used the short delay of one side of the stereo spectrum for a long time. Admittedly less and less. We have stereo widening in the master bus, why bother, right? Wrong. It is so much more powerful to use this for selected tracks and the effect is more dramatic than stereo widening tools ever will be. They are not bad on the bus but the Haas effect is something very different. But complicated to achieve. Till now. I used to export a mono track into stereo. Then split the stereo track. Then delay them to each other. Sometimes I got timing issues, when the parts did not start on beat 1 in the bar. And if something is overcomplicated we tend to dislike it. And slowly stop using it. Like me. But this technique with the stereo delay stock plugin is so easy to use that it became a standard for every project within a few days. First a made a mistake leaving the left channel open and wondered about the 1/1 delay. lol. But I replayed this tutorial and turned down the left cannel in the stereo delay and it works just phantastic. The best effect is it makes the whole track so wide that widening plugins are not really making a significant difference any more. Unlike before. When the mix was quite narrow without widening. Thanks a lot, Dom.

One simple trick to make it easier to dial in a good amount: Keep your track in mono either by a monitor switch, or a plugin on the masterbus to make it mono. Dial in the delay to where it still sounds acceptable(Stay under 40msec.) and then switch back to stereo.This way you can find a sweet spot where it's wider in stereo, and not too canceled in mono. 3:17 Did you just flip us the bird?? That's not nice 😜

@SimonFieldMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this - although in terms of # of clicks, duplicating the track, adding delay to one and panning left right is way fewer clicks. Then you are also able to treat the differently and remove frequencies that are causing phase issues in the center. Another little thing about the example in this video, elements driving the beat (like claps) actually takes away drive when spreading them out like that IMO.

Thanks a lot Dom! :-) For me, for example, the way to create a Stereo Audio track and just transfer a Mono Audio Event to that Stereo track works very well. Then, I load the Plugin MONO TO STEREO into the Insert and specify the delay, stereo image width and color on it. If I want the impression of an even wider stereo image, I use some EQ that has the possibility to equalize the L and R channels separately and equalize them so that the equalization of the left channel is slightly different from the equalization of the right channel. For my needs, this method works very well for me...Hass's effect is a great trick, but it makes the left channel louder than the right, and that is often not the best option for me in the mix. Best regards!!

Gotta be careful with Hass effect on bass material when collapsing to Mono
@felinephase3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Just tried this. That said when you introduce back a bit of wet/dry on each channel respectively. For instance, Instead of 100% dry on left channel you put it to 80% dry and on the right channel 100% goes 80% wet similarly. Did help for me.
@willischirwa39923 жыл бұрын
The best is to set the locut within the stereo delay way up to 250 to 400 or even 600 Hz
@Jrel3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Might also still need to mono the low end even on the widened bass material because it will make any low and sub frequency content in the mix weaker than it was, or on the entire mix; whichever brings the low end back or keeps its original strength.
@willischirwa39923 жыл бұрын
@@Jrel I would not do that. Why? Because the widened material is not in phase any more. If you mono it you will definitely get phase cancellations in the low sector that you do not want to have. It is better to only widen the upper part of the spectrum.
@Jrel3 жыл бұрын
@@willischirwa3992 If you use a plugin like Ozone 9's Imager where you can split the frequencies into sections, you can decrease the width of only the low end, and not change the upper part (keeping the extra width), and the low end won't have phase issues. Plus you can also shorten the width of the upper part by -10 or so to increase its phase while still keeping most of the Haas effect. Switching everything to mono - it still sounds and feels fine.

This is a great tip! Also, it’s important to note that a little bit of “comb filtering” occurs when you use this technique, but in some cases the added width is worth the trade-off! Also using different amounts for each delay (not using 25ms for every instance) 😅. And always always check mix in mono afterwards!

I don't believe Cubase can automatically export a batch of tracks at different start and end points 🤔 - If you find out how please let us all know 😄
@rachidbendadande97503 жыл бұрын
I have found a way but unfortunately it's not exporting the tracks, you'd have to put all the recordings in one track and create cycle markers for each part that you want to export and then name those markers as you would for the tracks. Then in the export settings you'd go for cycle markers and select all of them and they will all be exported automatically, with their names but you'd have to go to the naming settings and chose marker id. this is what Greg ondo proposed for me. Even though i wanted the tracks to be exported but i believe there is no possible way,
