MSR and EFI partitions are only supported on GPT disks. Convert the selected disk to GPT and try again.

@@EFXTVe is this coversion applicable only on empty drives, or you can have data on it and more partitions on it? Will this wipe the data on the MBR drive?
@cdmarshall744811 ай бұрын
Actually it is pretty easy to do I did it in Win 10. Run command prompt as admin but you need a compatible system that can run in GPT. If all of that is yes and your Win is not on a GPT drive you can convert it if so it will automatically create the EFI file. Might not work for everyone sadly is the way of tech your windows 10 must be currently updated for this to work. RUN command prompt as admin. Then type this in to test: *mbr2gpt.exe /validate /allowFULLOS* If it says yes, you can swap it to GPT (hopefully). Then type almost the same thing again: *mbr2gpt.exe /convert /allowFULLOS* Please note the space before the / after each command. So it is command (space) /command (space)/command: mbr2gpt.exe {SPACE}/validate {SPACE}/allowFULLOS* Hit enter when done. If you ran as admin it should work. Restart and make sure your BIOS is in UEFI or it will not boot OS. If you cannot swap to UEFI in BIOS do not try this. Always have a backup just in case, always. This will convert your windows 10 to UEFI w/o any loss of data but never bank on that. As always, run at your own risk. 🙄

Windows OS is already installed so it is easy to create an EFI partition. How about creating an EFI partition from when there is no Operating System installed.

@@MarcinAdamowicz not yet, my hdd is not turning off by inactivity my laptop battery is draining so much even I am not using hdd files, but i think computer need efi file to start up if that efi file is on hdd and whole system is on ssd Or another drive it kinda nonsense, so you can create another efi files on your operating system drive by a command, idk what is that command, you can search on yt how to create efi file on ssd, after creating efi on your main drive you can delete old efi on hard disk by opening disk partition right click on hdd efi and now delete button will be visible nd restart your system, now gtg, your hdd will not turn on if you didnt open any hdd files

@xFLAME_x Жыл бұрын
@@lesehancatalog9934 yes bro i resolved it by these steps, go to youtube and search how to create efi file on new ssd (I mean this video) and type the command shown on any video, now restart your pc and go to bios and change efi partition to your new drive, if you don't know how to change efi partition drive in bios, you can search it on youtube, after changing it to new efi partition on ssd, go to windows partition and right click on old efi partition and click delete, and you can change hard disk turn of time by inactivity on power options on control pannel, change it to 1 min on both battery and plug in mode and done.

It would be super helpful if this video had a narrator, instead of music I don't like. . Why do just computer nerds not understand the BLOOMING OBVIOUS FACT that you are supposed to narrate a video! People who make videos on every other subject just plain know this. . This video really is helpful. I appreciate the effort this chap put into making it, but blimey, you have to go the full kilometer and explain to the viewers what is happening in the video.

This person went out of there way to make this video, the steps are relatively simple, and non narrative videos isn't exclusive to "computer nerds"

in disk manager, right click the DISK (not the partition) and click "convert to gpt". if the option is greyed out, then you have to format the disk before you can convert it to gpt

Yeah I installed Windows 8.1 on an old laptop. It did not install the EFI partition. It originally had it when I bought the laptop. When I tried to install Linux, it wanted the EFI partition. This is just freaking silly. I guess Windows installed as a MBR. I thought both Windows and Linux would work that way as well. So what I need to convert Windows to GPT now? When I went to reinstall everything, Windows didn't like that it was GPT, so I cleaned and converted it to MBR just so I could reinstall Windows. But when I installed Windows, no EFI, which Linux wants to install alongside. WTF!!!!

that did not create a workable efi partition you still need to format and make the msr , and assign drive letters the robocopy other the data from the original efi partition How to Mirror the EFI System Partition on Windows 10 form Disk 0 to Disk 1 1. select disk 0 2. list partition Step-2: Note the size in megabytes of "System" & "Reserved" Partitions on the boot disk (DISK 0). * * lets say they are "System" (EFI ) Partition is "100" MB and the size of "Reserved" (MSR) partition is 15MB. Step-3. Create the System and Reserved partition(s) and assign a drive letter to the EFI partition, on the secondary disk (DISK 1): 1. select disk 1 2. create partition efi size=100 * 3. format fs=fat32 quick 4. assign letter=t 5. create partition msr size=15 * * Note: Specify the same size you noted at step-2 above for the EFI & MSR partitions. Step 4. Assign a drive letter to the System partition on the primary disk (DISK 0) and exit DISKPART. 1. select disk 0 2. select partition 2 3. assign letter=s 4. exit Step 5. Copy the contents of the primary EFI System partition of Disk 0, to the primary EFI System partition on the secondary - mirrored - disk (Disk 1), by typing the following command in command prompt: * robocopy.exe s:\ t:\ * /e /copyall /dcopy:t /xf BCD.* /xd "System Volume Information" * Note: Type exit to close the DISKPART tool first.
