I wish I could get past setting up an Etsy account. I'm stuck on the shipping part. I recommend using a laptop or desktop. Setting up your shop, and managing listings and shop details is more efficient on a larger screen. However, once your shop is up and running, you can easily handle customer service using your phone through the Etsy app.

I'm from Canada too. It's totally fine to just list 'Canada' as your shop country, even if you mostly sell to the US. I do the same, and it works fine. Etsy's algorithm primarily focuses on keywords and shopper habits, so the shop country designation isn't as crucial. As long as your listings accurately represent your products and you provide great service, you should be good to go. :)

My only concern would be if listing “Canada” as my shop country, when US shoppers filter to “Shop by Country” wouldn’t that exclude my store in search results? Last question regarding seller account setup, I’m a sole proprietor, so the Canadian government uses my legal name as the company name, then operating as “Company Name” on business registration forms. When opening an Etsy account, I’m assuming they require gov. ID to verify sellers. My IDs all reflect my married surname (now hyphenated), would this be an issue? I’ve heard that your name on business registration has to match up exactly with personal IDs. This is the main reason I haven’t opened up a shop yet.

If those concerns are weighing on you, you can consider changing your location to the US. From my experience, it doesn't have much impact when selling digital products on Etsy. Just something to keep in mind. Regarding your seller account setup, Etsy typically requires a government ID for verification. If your IDs reflect your married surname, while your business registration uses your legal name, there might be some discrepancy. Yes! Love the idea where you follow setting up a shop from the beginning. I never thought of starting a shop using USD…Is it possible to change it after you have already started your shop? I have been finding a lot of my buyers have been American even though I am a Canadian shop too.

Hi, are you setting up on the actual Etsy site? I recommend trying out different bank accounts and see which one will push through without asking for a upfront payment. And make sure that you are on the etsy.com site

When I got to the part where it says "how you'll get paid", they said they would deposit a small amount into my bank account in order to verify my bank account.. it took many days but they finally did that, then a few days later they said they couldn't verify my account and to fill out my bank info again and they would resend another small deposit... I contacted support via chat and the person I spoke with there stated that he would need to “transfer my concern to people with more tools” and that I should wait for them to contact me.
