What Sabermetics (lol) do you primary utilize when constructing game plans for your pitchers? i.e. wOBA? Runs Created? P/PA? etc. Thanks

Great question - the leader of the pack in that group is wOBA, followed closely by OPS. The issue is, the weighted number from the way you calculate wOBA is set from MLB averages - which we don’t have at the college level. P/PA, FPA, and FSA are all things that also paint a good picture of what athletes do at the dish. BB:KO ratio is another good indicator of an athletes ability. Like I said in the video, it’s a good way to see the success an athletes had that season - but it doesn’t tell you the full story of how you can beat them. So it’s something we include, but don’t lean on when prepping for opposing teams. Hopefully this answered your question! Thanks for the comment, Matt.

I wanted to thank you for posting this sort of content, it’s a great help. I’m currently doing a research project and was wondering if you would be able to provide an example of your template for an opposing hitter scouting report. I’m struggling to figure out how to format an opposing hitter’s scouting report. Thanks and keep up the great content

Wanted to thank you for posting this video. I am very interested in joining scouting for a MLB team as I currently work for the Twins as a baseball technology operator. I started going to FCL games to jot down my own reports, as well as meeting scouts who have helped me grow as a "Free lance" scout. Thank you for making this video,

@@SimpleSabermetrics I’m a baseball lifer. Three years of college ball, coached and scouted after my playing days were over. It’s been a while, but I’d like to get back into it in some capacity, probably scouting because I’ve always enjoyed watching and then analysis of HS and college prospects. I’m divorced now and my kids are older, so I have no commitments other than my love of the game. Any suggestions on how an older guy can get back into the game? I’d bird dog (area scout), but I’ve heard and talked with former teammates who mostly agree the consensus is MLB has had a big down sizing of most scouting staffs. If so, that’s fine. Just trying to gauge the possibilities. Thx for any help you can offer.

Nice video! I was wondering if you had an example of a report you give your student managers to fill out, like a link to one or something. It’s ok if you don’t, but I was just curious since I’m currently a data analytics manager for my university’s baseball team, but I get no help from the coaches and have trouble thinking of a solid format to use. Also, we use synergy. Thanks!

We do have a template - it’s not something I’ve shared yet but definitely something I’m considering in the future. Thanks for the comment!

Would like to know more about Synergy. Thinking of getting it for next year but not sure if it’s worth it at high school level for the amount of games we play with getting opponents data. Thinking if being able to get practice data would make it beneficial still?
@SimpleSabermetrics5 жыл бұрын
I’ve received several questions about Synergy, BATS!, etc. Starting to think that I should do some general overviews on all of the different types of tech used out there. As for your question - I do not believe that there is practice data for any level found in synergy. I know the software now supports high school data, but I’ve heard it’s more beneficial for recruiting than anything yet. That may change down the road though - thanks for the comment!

Do you guys use 6-4-3 Charts or FastCharts, or strictly Synergy?
@SimpleSabermetrics5 жыл бұрын
We utilize Trackman data to get information on the data that is normally spit out by those programs. Synergy is where we get the majority of our information though. I’ve used a couple of those systems, like diamond charts and pitchaware, but it’s not something I’m using now. Thanks for the comment Corey!

Can you do trackman and synergy?

Definitely can! I’ll add it to the list for this year 🔥

In college, how do you become a student manager?

Great question, Graham - my best piece of advice would be to reach out to the director of baseball operations and ask if you can volunteer to help the team out. This will be different everywhere, but they will definitely get you in the right position! Thanks for the comment!
