How to create personal style tips - Experimenting with clothes

The tips for creating personal style are easier than you think. It's mostly just one trick, and that is: "play". Playfulness. How can I wear this item? Can I wear it as something else? How can I layer to create styles that are unique and personal? It's a matter of looking at clothes with a fresh eye and then playing with them to create something new. I picked up 3 tubes (probably intended to be tube tops or skirts) and we're going to do a little experiment. How can we wear these tubes and play with them to create something unique and interesting? Let's just have fun.

As an 80 yr old I wear mini dresses as tunics and wear with trousers, cut a dress to make it unto a blouse, wear skimpy pretty blouses with a white close fitting tee shirt underneath and this gives me more options to look for when shopping. It just takes imagination.

I'd bought a dress on a crazed shopping spree that ended up going in and out of my closet. It just didn't fit or look right🤷‍♀️ I ended up turning it around, and it fit beautifully. 😁Good for you. Admire your ingenuity. 😬Have an unfortunate law & order side that's quite precise & rule oriented. Being a perfectionist has certainly translated to my personal style. 🤭It once seemed sacrilegious to try a garment different than it was intended. Now, I'm more inclined to try a new approach. Always been obsessed w/wanting to follow the letter of certain 📷 "visual laws" to suit my particular body proportions. Not to please anyone else, but simply to feel more at ease w/my extreme curves⏳️. 😉It took me decades to sort out acceptable solutions for the rules I actually DECIDED to break. 👩‍🏫Plus, I'm still learning NEW things to consider about other body measurements 📏 & proportions〰️like the ratio of torso:legs, thighs:calves, the differences of being high vs short waisted. Each of these factors can introduce another layer of complexity to the ↕️whole↔️ picture. 😊Never have been as particular w/what others wanted to do. 💖Adore Boho🏵 & CottageCore🌷. Thoroughly delight in pretty Pop⭐️Star looks〰️but I simply feel stupid😔 in garments that lean 📸costumey or flashy💥. 😵‍💫Hate when GFs ask a styling question. Just bcos I won't mix ivory w/white doesn't mean it doesn't look lovely on others. White or cool gray are the only light neutrals I can tolerate near my face. I don't expect others to be as picky about patterns, colors, or detailing. I've always felt more at peace🕊 in the matchy match realm, but I am slowly embracing more tonal monochromatic looks. I have my⚡️personal power colors, but I do love some lights, brights, & prints. All neutrals might be elegant, but they can also be ho-hum🥱 city & make me feel frumpy dumpy👵. 🤫Feel silly, but it NEVER dawned on me to consider turning some garment backwards🤯. Or upside down as Diana did w/a tank top in another episode. I don't do spaghetti straps or strapless bcos of my big bust, but I can 💯% tolerate deep arm holes w/a sturdy sports bra to cover & secure the bosom area. Highly enjoying her joyful experimentation. Pure elegance feels far too formal & fussy for my casual lifestyle in a hot climate hovering in🌡triple digits😎. It's not something I'm inspired to emulate. 😘Plus, there's always been a playful, innovative, & somewhat rebellious part of myself. 🧐Hate being narrowly confined to someone else's notion of beauty &/or style. I was just thinking of that. I couldn't remember the name for them but just looked it up and that's it, Units. One of my friends was totally into that look. She would often use the tank tops as a belt or scarf and turn the tops into a mini dress. It was a daring look for a teenager.

I have worn a midi/maxi elastic-waist skirt pulled up to create a knee-length ‘strapless dress’, which I paired with a jean jacket. Have a few nice scarves I could tie as halter top,s, which I would definitely pair with a blazer (I am too old for a silky barely-there halter top!). But mostly getting creative means wearing a patterned button up with trousers instead of jeans.

Hi Gail! I actually have never felt comfortable in a barely there halter top at any age. Scarves definitely do the trick when it comes to adding something silky and feminine to any outfit. I like all of your ideas here!

I used to turn my scarves into halter tops when I was college age. The only thing I could stand wearing in hot humid weather. Very cheap if you went to an Indian clothing store.
