Thank you, Russ! I did in some areas, but I wasn't crazy about the effects, due to the colors I think. Sometimes I feel it fits the design and others not so much. Just depends.

Great job, fellow Nebraskan!!! Eagle is a cool little town, I used to live in Palmyra. I've seen you work with Rhonda, Mitch, & Erika. Now I'm following you too! Gorgeous look and I love that you used bling. I've been using very fine black glitter in small veins to mimic the matrix in granite. Looks really authentic. Happy to see your set up. Nice space. Thanks for sharing your talent with us! 🥰👏👏👏👏

Keith, on the rock edge corners, was the Bondo on top of the level MDF or did you grind those corners down just a little and then build it back up with the Bondo ??? Looks fantastic.
@kcdcdesigns
@kcdcdesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi J Van, and yes, I left the Bondo on the top surface of the level MDF as I described in the video. I've learned that even if there's a few peaks (after lightly sanding with 150 or 220 to knock down the sharp points), after the color coat and flood coat the surface is perfectly level. But what's cool, is that the metallics in the color coat will flow down those peaks and create a really cool effect, almost 3-D like.

Did you glue 2 3/4 in mdf together to make the counter so thick?
@kcdcdesigns
@kcdcdesigns Жыл бұрын
I just added a standard drop-edge (3/4"). I think what makes it look thicker, is when I created the rock-edge on the island, I allow the drop-edge to stick out about 1/4". That way when I shape the rock-edge with the grinder, instead of being a straight 90° edge, it's kind of sloped, giving the appearance of being thicker. Did that make sense?

@kcdcdesigns

Hey, Amey! Using the same technique I've created some customer countertops using grays and whites which are very neutral, not too bold and could make a nice dinette set. I will see if I can find pics and send them over FB PM. Thanks for your comment!

Is this still durable even if you don’t apply the ultimate top coat? Asking cause certain people may not like the flat look.
@kcdcdesigns
@kcdcdesigns Жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph, I have many customer countertops without the Ultimate Top Coat on them as it was not yet available. If applied correctly and best practices are followed, along with applying a clear coat over the color coat, the Stone Coat epoxy finish is very durable. Due to the high gloss, over time you may develop micro-scratches, the same as you would in other surfaces, but with SCC epoxy you can always buff them out. I've seen several I did that are over 3 years old and they're all holding up great, and look as good as they did when installed. The reason I apply UTC to all customer countertops (their choice of Gloss or Natural) is because of the added durability and that they can be installed after 48 hours, opposed to storing them for 30 days until fully cured. Thanks for your question!
