Awsome thanks so much. I would love to learn more on assets. I would like to see to make a monthly calendar on one page and i bet save it as an asset would make it easy to change for each year. Wow you blow my mind this seems so much easier then indesign

Hi. When creating calendars I use the table tool for the cells and columns. Unfortunately, you can't add tables into the assets panel. I do plan on creating a tutorial on a monthly calendar in an upcoming video 🙂

I don't know if there is an option to create a new pattern layer from selection in Affinity Designer.

I create all my vector pattern designs in Affinity Designer which is a vector graphic software like Adobe Illustrators and is designed for vector images (SVG, ai, ESP, PDF etc). I design in vector because it's more flexible for editing, scaling without losing any image quality and exporting can be in any file format. There are many videos with good tutorials on how to create seamless repeat patterns in Affinity Designer even using symbols which is a game changer as it allows you your pattern preview in real time. It's much easier to convert vector graphics to raster but difficult converting raster images to vectors. I clicked on this video because I was curious to why he was using a photo editing software- Affinity Photo like Adobe Photoshop which is for working on raster images (PNG, JPG, PSD etc) to create a pattern using vector images instead of just using Affinity Designer. I know people create patterns all the time using Photoshop and Affinity Photo but use raster images.

I completely agree with you, and i also use affinity designer for creating patterns. I created this video with Affinity Photo for those people that don't have access to Affinity Designer, but want to achieve the same kind of effect. However using vectors is definitely recommend if they have the option. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂
