How to Create Sonic's Spin Dash in Game Builder Garage | Making Sonic Part 2

In the second part of our Making Sonic series we're adding in the Spin Dash.
We start with the visuals by using a spinning sphere and textures to switch between our two modes. Then we add in movement limitations. Finally we create a simple logic set-up for the spin dash that requires you to hold the move for a second to get the related speed boost.

Hi I’ve used this tutorial for a sonic project I’m working on (videos on my channel page) but the game is 2d and if I push left or right whilst spin dashing sonic/person moves off of the layer he’s supposed to be on. Is there a way to create a roll lock patch like in the classic 2d sonic games?

Just make it that if the light is on it goes to a counter and if the counter reaches a specific number turn off the flashlight

I have a question. I’m trying to use 2 switch game nodons, but it rather won’t switch the game, or just doesn’t work at all. If anyone knows how to fix this, that would be great!

They can be a little tricky, one* needs to go in your current game, then the other needs to go into the second game. I forgot exactly what the setting is called right now but there is a setting in there that determines if the nodon is “sending” or “receiving” and then there is a text string that both nodon need to have. I think it’s called a key or tag so they can talk to each other.

How do you mean? Like the ball won’t line up with the ground?

@@tickletipson267 that’s probably due to the person size Vs the ball size. You could try shrinking the person by a tiny tiny amount so the ball hangs lower or shrinking the ball/growing the ball in relation to the person. You basically have to play around with those two sizes until it lines up, that’s how I did it.

Hey, I see these, I don’t think that’s something that I would do a whole video on. I have a flashlight build in my horror fps video. It would be really easy to make it “rechargeable”. You could run down a counter when you use it, and then have something add back to the counter.
