my biggest struggle is creating a balanced mix in both mono and stereo. Will you do a video on how to balance your mix so it is compatible in both? In my experience, my favorite mixes/songs from artists I look up to sound wide, but when I play them in mono it is not that noticeable of a difference. Cheers!

I like the tip on compressing the mids only. I've always compressed the sides (and raised their overall volume). But after hearing your reasoning, that would make the mix more mono on louder parts. This might be song dependent, but you've given me another thing to try. (Compressing the mids on my current song project sounds pretty good!)

Yet more great content, thank you!! This made me think of another idea. In your opinion, what sorts of problems should/can NOT be addressed in the mastering stage? Put another way, what things are properly belonging to mastering, and what things properly belong to mixing. I've always believed stereo width is 90+% a function of the mix

Thanks for your solid, no-nonsense content videos as always I personally preferred the dynamic method. Specially that i love the weiss maximizer. But im not sure if the amplitude of the side signal is already higher in the dynamic example compared to the eq one. Nevertheless, the dynamic version kept a focused vocal, and sounded naturally wide to me.

Question, I am trusting my ears but can I put this on a master bus in the normal mix as the first Weiss plugin then this mm1 after? And then I run a final limiter that’s soft after that and then a very soft master compression? What do you think. Is the Weiss order even correct there? I’m guessing the mm1 would come after the mk3 based off my ears anyways and logically?

Hi, what about the mono compatibility of these tips and when It doesn't matter ? Free alternative vst for multiband saturation and Comp/limiting with M/S features ? I use Hornet Totale and Slick Eq mastering edition
@sageaudio
@sageaudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Mono compatibility matters the most when processing low frequencies. I usually keep the lows, and the high mids more mono, while the low mids and the highs can be spread slightly. SageAudio.com

It's good for use on individual instruments or maybe for use on certain busses. I'd be more inclined to use it during the mixing stage but maybe it'll work for mastering in very small amounts (kind of like izotope stereo imager).

That's not the only way to do it but it's one way! The mid is the center image, side is the stereo or non-center image. By compressing the mid, the side is louder in comparison! SageAudio.com
