NOTE: There is a part where I talk about needing to press the "Stereoize" button for the effect to work. I should have clarified that this button needs to be pressed if your source is in MONO. If you already have some stereo width to your sound, this button is not essential. I hope I didn't cause confusion that this button must be pressed before the plugin does anything, I was only referring to MONO sources (Which is what we used in this video, the Rhodes and vocal). What I was referring to is also a common thing I see where a plugin being tweaked in "bypass" mode but the person swears it is making a difference.

I listened the stereo seperated one like many times, it really adds the charm the feeling as I call it....stereo widening is always the first thing I look for, even before the loudness thing. I use the same Imager, it works like a miracle, definitely recommended. And thank you 'in the mix'....for introducing the mid side eq technique, one more good piece of knowledge you added in me, as you always do....Thank you....

Mid=central signal. Side=L and R signal. Then you EQ! Not complicated to understand how it works. To understand when and why you need it, it's the basic purpose of mixing = making frequency room for instruments/sounds so they sound better. But sometimes you need frequencies that sadly step on each other. Mid side EQ is helpful for this.

@@inthemix I can't list off any names but most of the times I've heard it were from workshops and master classes. The engineers often complain about the phase issues MS EQs create. I don't know anything about sound engineering, I just started getting into it. But one thing that really stood out is whatever you did to your vocals in the first part of the video completely changed the entire vibe of the song. All that reverby, airy synthesized effect on the vocals shouldn't need to be done if you want to achieve what you want. Am I correct? I much prefer natural dynamic vocals, surely you can keep that and work around it. Sorry not sure if that makes sense, but I just didn't understand all that change to the vocals in the first place when you ended up steroizing the other tracks. I'd love to hear the "final" version on this YT video, but with the original vocals. Also, I'd love to hear the final final version you released. Great work man! I'm just starting to learn.
@solitudestudios33705 жыл бұрын
You could also do it without a plug in at all. Duplicate the Rhodes channel. Pan one left and one right. Adjust the delay compensation (or move all instances of the sound on the time line over a very small amount). Bus the two channels back together to compress and EQ them together.

I find that using the “stereorize” button on an entire mix can make your song sound thinner and washed out. Its more useful when used on an individual sound that’s in mono, but otherwise using the imager without the stereorize works fine
