What stuff are you scanning
@ChadMees Жыл бұрын
@@randymay I haven’t had much of a chance to scan car stuff but I’ve been scanning things like drill batteries and statues to see how well it works. I use professional structured light scanners at my job but wanted my own scanner for little projects here and there. With the professional scanners I like that I am able to perform “registration” across all of my scans with settings as I please. I really don’t like how this software runs the registration immediately after you press stop scan. I also think the software has a lot of room for improvement because the manual alignment is not as intuitive as it should be
@randymay Жыл бұрын
Yeah the software is kinda annoying at times especially if you mess a scan up and want to stop it It will go through an entire loading process before you can just delete it.

I have a 3-D scanner, and I can barely find uses for it. I have to be honest. Even as a fabricator and artist there’s almost nothing that I can’t make with a ruler and caliper. I got a good deal on it so I’m gonna hang onto it until I can find a use for it.
@randymay Жыл бұрын
3D scanners are a good tool to get measurements quickly along with being able to capture complex shapes so you can copy them or make things to go on to them without tons of measurement and trial and error.

Could I use this device to scan on a large scale? Like the whole front end of a car for example
@randymay Жыл бұрын
You technically can but it is an absolute pain in the ass to do with this scanner because of the small scan area. That being said they make a bigger one that I actually did scan the front of a car with and you can as well here's a link to the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWa9q6tnlpeLmsU

Can I send you something to scan. When you align the scans, and choose points, does the point snap to the scanned file?? Meaning if you had to make four scans, and you have to align it, will the point have a variation in location, or the point will snap to the scan location you choose.
@randymay Жыл бұрын
You basically give it 3 reference points that should align and it kind of figures it out.

For car parts yes. PLA is more for things that aren't going to be in UV light all the time and heat. So you can use it inside your home with no problems. But if you have it outside on a hot day it will get soft and deform

I bet I could model them faster in Blender than the time it took to scan and process them 🤔
@randymay4 ай бұрын
Probably if you have the skills to do that. I don't know if the sizing will be 100% and the scanner is more of a tool to help with design work and not replace it.
@iangraham67304 ай бұрын
@@randymay Now I'm just wondering why you 'loved' your own comment? 🙂 Besides that though, the sizing is not an issue, at all . . you can get dimensionally accurate parts in Blender, no issue, and there is also Fusion 360. And also, I don't see any improvements on the scans compared to the ones I used to get, a good few years back, with the old PSVR camera hack! And that only cost around 20 bucks! It's a nice little gimmick for people that can afford it, don't get me wrong, but it's not worth the money they are asking for it, and thats by a long shot!
@randymay4 ай бұрын
I like and heart all of my own comments. It just adds a little bit more interaction to the channel if nothing else. And yes prices are definitely a major factor when it comes to these and they're really not meant for everyone. Like I said they are more of a tool to help along with designing things or remaking things than anything else. Like how you can get geometries that would take you hours along with multiple tries to get right in just a few minutes using the scanner. And yes you can use a camera setup and do photogrammetry. I'm actually going to be doing a car build on this channel using a lot of the tools that I have gotten and shown in these videos. I'll be converting a early 90s car to full electric using the motor from a 2019 Nissan leaf along with its batteries. Being able to use this scanner to scan the entire engine bay to mock everything up is going to be extremely helpful for that along with making adapter plates so the electric motor will mate with the manual transmission.
@iangraham67304 ай бұрын

This is the video summed up, you can't do it unless you have an relatively expensive 3d scanner, I'm not very good at this so i'm taking a course, use my code to get a discount. This video was just for a product review and get you viewers to pay for your shit lol.
@randymay Жыл бұрын
This was basically a review video about the mole scanner but at the same time I wanted to show what you can do with it and that you will need at learn a 3d software if you are going to do anything with any 3d scanner. Even with an expensive scanner you are going to need to learn how to work with the files in 3d and how to make your own parts. When I comes to the course I talked about in the video it was to show people that it was an option and something that I already bought for myself. So no one was paying for it if they used the code seeing that I already bought it. If anything I would get a credit to use later if I wanted to and they would also get the same amount off the course if they wanted to take it as well.
