In this video, I'll show you how to make top quality BNC cables.
Crimped for the best performance, tooling isn't cheap, but the time and
cost saving on the connectors is worth it for volume production.
I chose to use Canare brand connectors simply due to their high quality
and easy availability in Japan.
I have no affiliation to Canare at all, I just like their stuff. :)

Yes crimpers can get very expensive, I’ve used some JST and Molex crimpers that cost over $1000. It’s crazy when a company is buying thousands on terminals a year but still needs to pay that kind of money for an engineering tool. Nice work on those cables! 👍👏🏻

Yeah, crimpers can get stupid expensive. These Canare ones aren't too bad when looking at the pricey ones for comparison..

7:28 - oh wow, it clicks here? I guess that's something in the outer connector clicking over the just-crimped center pin??!?? Fascinating!
@NearFarMedia
@NearFarMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it clips the center pin into place so it won't get pushed away when you make a connection.

I always wonder how such thing are done. Thank you sir. Thumbs up to Canare connectors and tools! Could specify the details for the crimper and stripper.

Great video. Do you know of a source for the U.S. for the cable? If not how would you describe the cable parameters? Maybe I can find an equivalent.

The cable used is just standard 50 ohm RG58 coax, it's a very common type that you should be able to source almost anywhere.

Have you tried Jefcom? It’s a local JP brand. Their tooling seems to be standard size as opposed to Canare’s locked in design spec. Never seen that click connect center pin before though. Wonder if Canare have a patent for that or Amphenol do something similar. Interesting content👍🏻 Definitely scope for 3D printing a stripper though!

Thank you for the video! Although im a bit confused. Can i buy a cheaper crimp tool for canare connectors? There just doesnt seem to be any info or universal terms when talking about crimp tool sizing. Unless im blatantly missing something. Any tips would be very appreciated!

It's not recommended to use aftermarket crimping tools as if they are not the correct dimensions, the crimp can fail. Hozan (A Japanese company) does make a compatible crimping tool for some Canare crimps but I haven't used it. I do have the mechanical drawings for a selection of Canare crimper dies that I can make available with a link in the video description if you need them to compare to your crimp tools.

@@NearFarMedia Thank you for your response. Ive decided to let go of the endeavour and just buy cables. Just too pricey if youre not planning to make a ton.

Ahh.. the famous crimping handle. Put together by nude bearded virgins in misty forests of Scandinavia. Its magical power makes you create a few dozen bnc cables for no apparent reason. The only thing to remember is to put the collar onto a cable before you strip and crimp anything. I wonder - are the bnc cables that you can get on ebay that bad?

Your NA direct links are dead (expected with a 2 yr old vid). I entered their domain directly and found the parts. Amazon cables seem so poorly made after watching this vid.
