One of the most basic questions about the gm style pull to seat connector is "which way is up" - what is the correct orientation of the pin vs the connector body when you pull it in to seat? I can kinda sorta barely see that in the video, but would be good to be explicit about it.

I'm not an electrician, but I am a hobbyist at many mechanical pursuits and a bit of a perfectionist at some of them. For whatever reason, rebuilding wiring harnesses on old equipment is one of those jobs I look forward to and I love to make the new wiring harness as bulletproof as possible. Using todays modern crimping tools to bring old equipment back to life in a condition better than factory was capable of is both cathartic and satisfying. Great video btw.

Great video! I think its important to note that crimping around the exposed copper wire first is key. I've noticed in the past that if you crimp around the sheathing first you end up with a slight bend in the terminal.

Just got my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT running on Speed Density with stock ECU.. But man, I'm really looking at a haltech right now. I've flashed the subi one over 100 times while working through all the different tunes with injectors, custom mafs, and now speed density. I could really use the live tuning of a Haltech right about now.

My big concern is trying to rewire the engine compartment have a vintage 1974 Porsche 911 the big task of finding the right color-coded wire and the proper pins to fit all of the connectors that are original to the engine compartment wiring harness.

Great guys , I have started crimping recently on my looms and find it satisfying to learn this part of home mechanics. One thing I cant find out though is what pin type my Haltech E6x uses for ECU . I need to make my own loom starting from the ECU itself . I have the head and short loom from previous car.

I have removed a couple of unused wires from the ecu plugs but can't determine the pin type yet, still searching. Also, on the 26 pin plug I pushed the white tab in easily with my finger nail to let the wires pull out. Now I can't push it back in, it worked fine on the 34 pin connector. :/

What is the style of femal pin for the ecu? If they are readily available in the US, I'd rather grab some here than order all the way from Australia. I need to uprate the ground wire input to the sport 1000, it is only 18 or 20 gauge. I also need to add a few other wires for the alcohol sensor, etc. Thanks for any help, and the video was very helpful as well.

Hi, can you recommend a ratcheting crimper for doing very small open barrell wire crimps(22-28awg). I want one that gets everything done in one swipe and clean. The tools I have seem to take two swipes to get one done and in some cases it bends or mangles the crimp.Thanks for any recommendations!

from what I understand from Turbo yoda and others is that soldering causes wires to break eventually because of movement of the wires. Wire fatigue eventually sets in and the wire breaks. I used to think soldering would last longer.

Which WAY!!!!!!! is the crimp supposed to go into the crimpers? I watch a bunch of videos and no one seems to think it is IMPORTANT to mention the most important aspect of crimping. I'm guessing that the split side goes to the hump,but it would be nice if anyone could clarify that. The reason people have trouble crimping is because no one on KZbin seems to know how to explain the PROPER way to crimp. It is not rocket science,but isn't obvious either,so why can't an expert just assume that it isn't obvious and explain the procedure in detail?
@haltech7 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct - Split to the hump. Here's a pretty good vid showing it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX-0qGNqi8ehrqc

@haltech9 жыл бұрын
SideKickNz When done correctly crimping is a more effective method. Not to mention quicker and easier. However if you are proficient at soldering then stick with that:)
@SideKickNz9 жыл бұрын
Yeah just when you get a specific way of doing something drumed into you its hard not to have a byest opinion (My boss would kill me if he saw me crimp anything)
@XCSEDAN9 жыл бұрын
SideKickNz no offence to your boss, but that's a bad attitude, solder creates resistance, crimping creates less and provides a better connection. however in some situations and industries, solder is a must. right tool for the right job.
@2slofouru9 жыл бұрын
+SideKickNz Solder is great and actually decreases resistance, despite what was said. There are the areas of the pin that already touch the wire strands and then the areas that are bridged from the strands to touch the pin by the solder. It is great to do if you can avoid melting the wire insulation and sending to much solder into the pin for it to latch correctly. Crimping pins to wire is great as long as you use the proper tool, oem pins on Subaru for example, are crimped very well and provide low resistance. Now if you are connecting wire to wire, solder is hands down the best way, unless you suck at soldering.

as a electrician with 20 years experience, i could say every wire break i find is at the solder joint on plugs. brittle wire ,plus vibration gets them every time.
