Also if youre making them for iced coffee keep the pattern the same but if youre making it for hot coffee cups and want to extend the width, make sure to use a smaller hook size for the starting chains and starting sc. Wider version slid right off the hot coffee cup lol

@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I did try it in the round at first before recording the tutorial but the cozy started to lose its shape as it got bigger so it looked a bit v-shaped and it didn't work very well for the cozy. This way it maintained it's shape so much better. Could've just been me and the way I crochet a bit loser as the rounds go but if you try it in the round I'd love to hear how it comes out!! Thanks for watching!! 🥰🥰

Good evening! I just want to say thank you for this tutorial for the coffee cozy, it’s a cute pattern. I just made this using the 5.0 crochet hook but it’s not wide enough for the coffee cup, it’s about 2 1/2 inches shorter in width. I really want to do another one but can you please tell me about how many more chains to add. I would like to make three of these for a Christmas grab for Thursday. Thank you!
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you!! ... The length of the cozy should be between 9" - 9 1/4" long so yarn thickness and hook size doesn't really matter as long as you can get that gauge. People crochet differently, some tightly and others loosely so I wouldn't know how many more chains to add in your case. I hope knowing the length helps you to add the correct number of chains you need to get that size. Also if you printed the cup you could use that as a guide 👍🤗 let me know if that works!! Or if you have any other questions ☺
@winniechan8722
@winniechan8722 4 жыл бұрын
@@thecrochetmeknots My gauge and length was correct with your tutorial. When I went to slip it onto a Dunkin’ Donuts cup it wasn’t wide enough. How much longer should I do my chain?
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
Hard for me to say since I don't know the actual size of the dunkin donuts cup but what I would do is make a foundation chain to go all the way around the Dunkin donuts cup. The pattern calls for an even number +1 so just make a chain and measure it around the actual Dunkin donuts cup. Once you have a foundation chain long enough to go around the cup you can start crocheting. Now if you want more height on the cozy meaning a taller cozy then just repeat rows 2 & 3 until it's high enough. ☺

Welp! I didn't read the description haaaha mine does not look like yours, I used a thick yarn so couldn't see my stitches very well and thought all along it's your yarn that's why it looks different. Off to try again, with a thinner yarn too. Loving your cozy cup tutorials and patterns! I've made 4 today so far. So much fun to make something in so little time, thank you for the pdf too!

@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 3 жыл бұрын
Yea some cups are bigger than the standard paper cups. What you can do is make your chain and wrap it around the cup you're making it for and chain until you get the right size going all the way around but not overlapping, keeping in mind the multiple you need for the stitch you're crocheting. Hope this helps!! 🤞👍

I love this pattern. I made one with the same stitch count that you did and printed out the template cup but the cozy ended up being way bigger than the template cup. Any ideas?
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
Was the template printed at full scale? Because it should fit loosely but not way bigger than the cup template. The foundation chain should measure about 8" long. If that's right on then maybe check the printing scale and make sure it's at 100%. If the foundation chain is too long/short you can adjust it by adding/subtracting chains and keeping the multiple or simply adjusting your hook size. We all crochet in different tensions. Some looser than others so that may be why. I hope this helps!!
@teresagilmore674
@teresagilmore674 4 жыл бұрын
@@thecrochetmeknots can you give me the measurements of your template? I redid the cozy with fewer foundation stitches to make the 8 in chain but I still want to make sure the template is printed correctly. There's not a setting when I print that tells me if its at 100%
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
Ok the measurements are 7 1/4" from base to top of lid. 4 1/4" wide right under the lid and 3" at the base.

@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. While you are holding something "hot" it will not scorch the yarn itself so you can use acrylic if you want. I definitely recommend cotton for potholders, oven mitts and washcloths or dish towels. Whenever there's water or direct heat. I've used acrylic on these for years and never had an issue. Ultimately it's your choice 😊👍

It would be nice if you could tell us how to make the alpine stitch wider instead of telling us to just do more sc. I cant figure it out and this is way too short.
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots Жыл бұрын
The thing is, you can't make the stitch itself wider. You can only make more of them to accommodate the size you need. If the cozy is too short, you need to work more rows until you get to the height you want. If it's not fitting around your cup and it's too tight, just add more chains in your foundation to reach the width you need. Measuring the foundation chain around the cup before any work is done is key to making sure it fits for you. The tutorial size is a basic example but not a universal size. Thank you for watching! ❤️
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots Жыл бұрын
You can add one more row of alpine stitches by instead of doing the 2 sc rows at the end just work one and repeat row 5 alternating the regular double and back post doubles. Then just finish off like in the tutorial with 2 rows of sc.

@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I said 30+1 because the alpine stitch is crocheted in multiples of 2 so you always refer to your chain count for the multiple plus any additional chains to start.

How is a cup cozy safer against covid?
@thecrochetmeknots
@thecrochetmeknots 4 жыл бұрын
I said that for me personally I like to use them not only for hot beverages but also because the cup is handled by someone else before getting to you so I either sanitize the cup (which is not always ideal for me for lack of wipes etc) or I just put on my cozy so I don't have to sanitize my hands every time I pick it up to take a drink. Plus it's washable and reusable. It's my own personal practice against germs not advocating for it as a preventative for COVID. 👍
