Solution for continuing your hat after adding two more rows for the top of the hat. General things before I start, I used a 3.5mm crochet hook and my yarn was either a 3 or a 4 (I have no idea how to figure out the yarn weight sorry). I ended up using around 186 yards / 170 m of yarn. I did 2 extra rows because the top of the hat wasn't able to reach 7 inches with 12 rows for my yarn. I couldn't find anyone who had figured out how to continue the hat after that so I decided to do some calculations and I think I found a solution. (finished my hat and it turned out fine). I've also indicated the stitch count for each row in the bracket because I found it useful. Top of hat Row 1: 6 sc [magic ring] Row 2: 2 sc (12) Row 3: 1 sc, inc (18) Row 4: 2 sc, inc (24) Row 5: 3 sc, inc (30) Row 6: 4sc, inc (36) Row 7: 5sc, inc (42) Row 8: 6sc, inc (48) Row 9: 7sc, inc (54) Row 10: 8sc, inc (60) Row 11: 9sc, inc (66) Row 12: 10sc, inc (72) Row 13: 11sc, inc (78) Row 14: 12sc, inc (84) The diameter of the top of my hat was around 7 inches (18cm) . You can adjust this based on your head circumference, mine was 22 inches (56 cm). Quick math reminder, use pi×diameter to get the circumference. Side of hat Row 15, 16: sc (84) Row 17: 41 sc , inc , 42 sc (85) Row 18: sc (85) Row 19: 42 sc, inc, 42 sc (86) Row 20: sc (86) Row 21: 42 sc, inc, 43 sc (87) Row 22: sc (87) Row 23: 43 sc, inc, 43 sc (88) Row 24: sc (88) Row 25: 43 sc, inc, 44sc (89) Row 26: sc (89) Row 27: 44 sc, inc, 44sc (90) Row 28 - 32 : sc (90) I was trying to get the number of stitches to 90 by slowly increasing it so that the pattern would work for the brim. I'm not sure if it matters whether the inc you have is in the centre the whole time (someone can chime in below) but I guess you could do the increase anywhere you would like as long as you have the correct number of stitches when you finish the Row. My side was 3.5 inches (9 cm). Okay anyways with 90 stitches because its divisible by 5 you are able to use the brim pattern. So lets go to the brim pattern. Brim of hat Row 33: 4 sc , inc (110) * If you follow 4sc, inc you will only get 108 stitches. You will need to replace any two sc with an inc instead. This will help you get 110 stitches * Row 34: 10 sc , inc (120) Row 35: 3 sc, inc (150) Row 36-38: sc (150) Row 39: 9 sc , inc (165) Row 40 - 41: sc (165) My brim was around 2 inches (5.5cm) wide For Row 33 to work i needed my number of stitches to be divisible by 5 and for Row 34 to work the number of stitches had to be divisible by 11 thats why I had to improvise and add stitches. If you guys did any other number of rows for the top of your hat you can try using this technique to figure out the number of stitches you need. I just tried to figure out a nice number that worked with the pattern in the tutorial and doesn't require many modifications. I hope this was helpful! I'm just a beginner and this is my 2nd project so haha sorry if this pattern is breaking any crochet rules, I was just using math to figure out how to follow the pattern. Let me know if you have any questions for this adaptation. If anyone one has any other tips you can leave them below! Thank you Lala for your tutorial!

Written pattern with the number of stitches Top of hat Row 1: 6 sc [magic ring] Row 2: 2 sc (12) Row 3: 1 sc, inc (18) Row 4: 2 sc, inc (24) Row 5: 3 sc, inc (30) Row 6: 4sc, inc (36) Row 7: 5sc, inc (42) Row 8: 6sc, inc (48) Row 9: 7sc, inc (54) Row 10: 8sc, inc (60) Row 11: 9sc, inc (66) Row 12: 10sc, inc (72) Quick math reminder, use pi×diameter to get the circumference. This way you can figure out whether the hat would fit you! Side of hat Row 13 -26: sc, no inc (72) Brim of hat Row 27: 4 sc , inc (88) *You've probably realised that 72 isn't divisible by 5 so here's what you can do. For the 2 left over stitches do an increase for both so that you end up with 88 stitches. Space them out in the row so they won't be as noticible. Learnt this from a commenter called erin whelan so thank you!* Row 28: 10 sc , inc (96) Row 29: 3 sc, inc (120) Row 30-31: sc , no inc (120) Row 32: 9 sc , inc (132) Row 33: sc, no inc (132) I hope this was helpful! Been working on this project with cotton yarn and a 3.0mm crochet hook, so I wanted to give some tips to those who need them. (Sorry, I talk in centimetres, but it's easy to convert by googling it). - Take your head circumference - for example 57 cm - and divide it by 3,14 - for example 57/3,14=18,15 -. This is the diameter you have to reach before stopping the increases. - The side height should be something between 9 and 10 cm, but try it on to adjust it. Thanks again for this beautiful video!
@lili2k3 жыл бұрын
For anyone ending up with more or less stitches needed for any increase round, which is easy to do when you're accidently adding or missing a stitch or more as you crochet along, just add increase(s) or decrease(s) so you have the correct amount of stitches for the next increase round. I promise you will not notice anything amiss in the end. It turns out perfect every time!
@gracedalgarno26273 жыл бұрын
How do you know how many stitches you need :) thanks for the tip
@leviprado51823 жыл бұрын
@@gracedalgarno2627 Idk if it will help you but this applies to amigurumis in general. (I am not a native English speaker) The base of the work is the number 6. So normally all your carrers should be multiple of six. Each round you do +1 sc × 6. Ex: Round 2: 12 stitches Round 3: 18 stitches (1 sc + 1 inc) Round 4: 24 (2 SC + 1 inc) Round 5: 30 stitches (3sc + 1inc) So you can count (SC + 2) ×6 "I don't know how many stitches are supposed to be in my 18 round :(" But you know that in the 18th round you do 14 sc and 1 increase six times so in the end you most to have 96 stitches. (14+2)×6

Where do I add my decreases and increases? I’m at row 28 right now, and I could only do 8 sc until I reach the end of the row (the pattern for row 28 is 10 sc 1 inc). Do i add a decrease to the last 2 stitches of the row and start a new row?
@lili2k2 жыл бұрын
@@lynaluu5136 Wherever you want to add them. Any single stitch is ripe for an inc or dec (except for a dec stitch on the last stitch of a row since the dec stitch needs a following stitch to decrease), so, yes, the last 2 stitches is fine depending on how many stitches above or below the multiple of 11 you are. Personally, I prefer to space them out, and stay away from the last stitch (as mentioned above, you can't do a decrease on a stitch without a stitch following it, but you can increase), so I always count the total stitches before I start an inc row (of course hoping I'm at the right count and don't need to do any!)

I’m still doing the top of the hat but if you use stitch markers on every corner you don’t have to count! The first rows are easier with just counting, but after a while I found the stitch markers easier than counting. I’m not good a explaining but you use them the same way you use the first one, so the increase should always be right before the stitch marker. @ ok. question: how, on the magic circle, did you tail end up on the same side as the hook? Mine keeps ending up on the opposite side, and I'm doing what you're doing but my tail isn't on the right side.
@ela1ne5792 жыл бұрын
Hi i have a question because I'm using a more smaller yarn that yours i needed to make more rows for the top of the hat right. Now I'm just wondering since i made more rows which equals to making more SC for the brim of the hat, should i just follow the pattern and make 4 SC then increase ? Or should I make more then 4 SC ( for the brim of the hat row 27)

07/06/21 I’m starting this project as a total beginner - I just learned of to double crochet, so excited to see how it will turn out! Update 1: Messed up some stitches since the top doesn’t really make a circle and I think my head is like super big because it’s will definitely never fit. Going to unravel everything and try again form the beginning
@orthophosphoric97793 жыл бұрын
1) measure your head circumference with a measuring tape, then u can get the correct diameter for the top 2) if the circle ends up being the wrong shape you're probably stacking the increases on top of each other, they shouldn't be in the same spot 3) if it curls or ruffles change the number of increases per row

I'm pretty new at crocheting, do you mean in stead of sc when beginning every new row you should do the slip stitch? If yes then would that be counted as one of the sc you need or would you still have to do the extra sc in order to complete the amounts needed
@ileananajera14323 жыл бұрын
@@taniabonilla4760 yes, and it would count as one sc
@majjamr3 жыл бұрын
@@taniabonilla4760 it would be a slip stich after the last sc of the round and it would be an extra stich and wouldn’t count as a sc so you just do a slip stich at the end of each round (when you completed all sc needed) before you start the new round! 💗
