This is the best video for the moon I've seen so far - and I've watched three or four this afternoon! I like the way you do this, as it's so simple and actually makes for a better moon shape. I'm intrigued by the extended dc as I've not come across it before. Am I right in thinking it's sort of halfway between the double and triple crochet?

The difference between star and sun is one crochet. The difference between star and moon 3. I think it`s the critical difference between them and i can't to connect them in a good way. Not sure if I did this correctly, but I ended up needing to do 2 sets of double crochets at the end of the moon (so that the last set at the end of the circle was a double crochet even tho I believe the pattern intended for it to be a single crochet).

try doing a round of double crochet before you do the round of single. 1 dc in each stitch for the corners do 2dc ch 2 and 2 dc. see if that looks better.
