The thing I love the most about granny squares is that you kind of complete a part of the project after every square. It always feels like WOW I completed something and get to start over with a new square lol as someone who goes to school and work full time I find it hard to complete any projects, so it's nice to be able to feel like you accomplished something quickly... even if you needed what seems to feel like a MILLION squares you still get that satisfaction from completing something.

I haven’t crocheted for about 35 years and although I’ve got arthritis in my hands I decided to have a go again. Your video was easy to follow and after quite a few mistakes at first I have managed to make my first success by crocheting a granny square, thank you for your easy to follow instructions 😁

Not sure if it will help arthritis, but I have severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I wasn’t able to crochet for years but recently found a handle that is kind of egg shaped and I can use it for hours without pain. It holds many sizes of hooks. It’s really helped me, and may be worth looking into.

For anyone who doesn't know, the light green row where she says she doesn't know the name, is a Double Crochet 4 Together cluster. The pattern abbreviation is dc4tog, but it could be any number of stitches being worked together. 3 stitches is dc3tog, 10 is dc10tog and so on. Happy stitching! Big thanks for this super helpful video. Your voice is so much easier to listen to than a lot of yarn KZbinrs, very chill and straightforward 💙😊

I learned simple, basic crochet when I was a little girl, but never really advanced much past sc, dc and chain and slip stitches. Only recently did I learn how to do a basic granny square, and how to crochet in the round. Thanks to KZbin and the internet, I got back into crochet and I've learned SO MUCH. All kinds of new stitches, all kinds of different ways to do things, and now I've just learned how to make this sunburst granny square. I actually made my first afghan last year, after starting one using only dc and sc and getting bored with it because the stitching just looked so bland. I learned how to do a granny stripe, and it looked so pretty that I completely frogged that bland afghan and used the yarn to start over... and that granny stripe afghan looks GORGEOUS, in all different shades of pastel solid and variegated yarn ('Monet', by Red Heart with solids that appear in the Monet) and soft cream! It even has a shell edge on it... so, I decided it was time to learn how to make squares. I started the basic granny square, learned ways to work out the 'tilt' that sometimes shows up so now I make nice straight squares that don't tilt anymore... and it was time to learn new kinds of squares... like this one. This stitch reminds me of a Texas wildflower called the Firewheel (Gaillardia), so once I really get good with this square, I might make an afghan for my friend, in the colors of the Firewheel flower. Firewheel flower... farm66.static.flickr.com/65535/48106882232_82fd4f02ce_b.jpg

Green is good for the outside too. They're not really thick enough to actually use for potholders. Do you double it with something in between?

If you have attempted to make this square larger and have succeeded please comment here on how you were able to do it so that we can all share some ideas and help each other out :)

That was one of my first projects! I made a bigger than king-sized granny square for our bed when I got married. After that I made another giant granny square and entered it into a contest at the Grange here in Texas. It was my very first contest and I won the blue ribbon for it! I miss that blanket. I don't know what happened to it. :0( I still have my ribbon, though. :0)

I've never crocheted before and I found this pattern through a friend suggesting it and gave it a go. while I think my tension may be slightly tight, its turned out wonderfully and I'll be using it to make granny squares from all the scraps from my knitting projects and make possinly a bag? a lap blanket perhap.either way it was quite easy to follow though I had to pause several times.

Lisa, my Oma taught me crochet when I was little, maybe 8 or 9. She taught me on white number 10 crochet thread (GAH)! I started out making lots and lots of chains, and then decorative flowery bookmarks with single, double and treble crochet. My husband can crochet, too! Anyone who says that you like crochet because you're getting older will be the ones who won't get the cool handmade gifts from you - let them drool over the beautiful scarves, sweaters and blankets that everyone else gets. Haters gonna miss out. :)

My grandmother learned when she was five and made Clones* lace blouses, gloves, tablecloths, and a mountain of other things. I've taken it up in the last few years (in my 20's) and try to make gifts for family on special occasions to continue the tradition. * "Clone-iss" is a small town in Ireland, after which the Clones Knot and a style of Irish crochet lace is named. Also where I'm from. :)
