I know a few people have been confused by the "skip the first 2 chains and double crochet into the 3rd chain" at the beginning of this pattern. That's just for the very first row, and you do that so that the first stitch is the correct height to match up with the double crochet stitches. If you didn't skip the first 2 chains, the first stitch would end up all squished. After that, you chain 2 at the beginning of each row to start. Normally I would do a chain 3, but because of the size of this yarn and everything, a chain 2 seemed sufficient so I just went with that. I'm sorry for not explaining that further in the video! If you're still having trouble, check out the blog post where I walk you through the pattern step by step with photos, and feel free to comment if you're still stuck. www.marchingnorth.com/free-super-bulky-crochet-throw-blanket-pattern/ Thank you! 😊😊

When you finish (at 8:20) and cut the yarn... put the end through loop (do not pull it out like you did) this will create the knot. And will not unravel. Then hide the tail in the blanket.

In the beginning of your crocheting journey was it hard for you to figure out how to make the different knots/patterns? How long did it take you to master? What made you want to continue crocheting? Was it ever frustrating at certain points? Have you ever experience artist block? And that’s all. Thank you!

@evilkirachan
@evilkirachan 2 жыл бұрын
I'm an amateur so take this for what it's worth. Double crochets are nice but a half double crochet is more compact and just as nice. if ur worried about gaps I find this this helps. For the curling maybe steam blocking the piece will help with that. Like I said I'm an amateur but I find this helps
@genniegidney
@genniegidney 2 жыл бұрын
You don’t skip that many stitches. You do the chain 33, then double crochet in the third chain from hook, to create the first stitch. Then you double crochet once in every chain to the end. So you should have 30 stitches. Then you chain 2, turn your work, and double crochet one in each stitch across, having 30 double crochet. Repeat chain 2, turn, and dc in each stitch. If the holes are still very large then it’s probably tension being too loose. If it’s curling it’s likely too tight of tension. Or you don’t have the right size yarn and hook. It’s practice and time that makes you more skilled. The first projects won’t be perfect. And that’s ok just be patient and work through it. You only skip the first 3 chains on the first chain row, because you need the slack for your stitches.

@genniegidney
@genniegidney Жыл бұрын
@@karendobruk5966 it depends on the pattern. If you count the chain as a stitch and your stitch count matches the pattern then you count the chain 3 as the first stitch. But don’t miss it when you do the next row. Sometimes I don’t count the chain as a stitch sometimes I do. If your count is off, then you must be counting the first stitch as a dc. In this case, you could do a chain of 32 and dc in 3rd ch fr hook. It’s just to get your 30 dc.

How did you wash the yarn before making this? I love this and will be making one.

I just washed it after I made the blanket- it’s machine washable, but it’s bulky so you’ll want to use the bulky setting on your washer. It washes pretty well though!

Perhaps I didn't catch it, and I know you're using a 25mm hook, but what size was the yarn here?

Thank you! One question. Why “knot” (pun intended) just tie the new yarn the the end of the first and continue on. Why crochet with the new piece unattached and tie it together from behind later?

For some reason, every time I keep retrying to do this, the stitches are easy, but my edges end up wider and wider, never straight / even

I just finished this! One question I encountered was how long the 33 count chain at the beginning should be? I was wondering if the chain is the width or the length. This is my first crochet project in 20+ years and I have always crocheted too tight. To be on the safe side, I purchased 8 skeins of Bernat Blanket Big yarn. Anyhow, I purchased the pattern from Etsy hoping to find out how long the chain should be and if I was working width wise or length wise. The pattern didn't say, so I still have this question. It didn't seem like the blanket was getting long enough. When I finished with the 8th skein of yarn, the blanket measured 50" x 46". I purchased more yarn and ended using 3 more skeins, so a total of 11! The final size is 50" x 63". I love how easy this pattern is. Seriously, this was so super quick to make! I would still like to know if the chain and rows are supposed to be the width or lenghth. Thank you for sharing this!

Hello! The chain would be the width of the blanket, or at least that’s how I did it. So the chain would end up being approx. 46” long or so. The great thing about this pattern is you can adjust it and make it as big as you want! It sounds like you’re turned out great!! 😊😊
