How to Crochet Converse Style Booties (0-3 months)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver
Hook: 3.50mm
Sole

Slip knot & chain 9
Round 1: 3 dc into 3rd chain from hook, 5 dc, 6 dc into next sts, 5 dc, 3 dc into next sts. Slip sts (22 sts)
Round 2: chain 1, 2sc in the next 2 sts, 4 sc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc in the next 8 sts, 1 hdc, 4 sc, 2 sc in the next 2 sts. Slip sts (34 sts)
Round 3: chain 1, 34 hdc at back loop only. Slip sts
Round 4: chain 1, 34 hdc
Making the toe top

Place sts marker at middle (back/heel), count 11 sts from both left and right from the sts marker. You should have 12 sts for the front part.
Row 1: chain 2 at the sts marker, 6 dc decrease, 1 dc at the next sts marker
Row 2: chain 1, 3 sc dec, 1 sc
Row3: chain 1, 2 sc dec. chain 1, cut yarn.
Top part of the shoes

Row 2: chain 1, turn work, 22 sc

I’m having a problem with the “toe part”... it says to place a st marker in the middle of the back and the. Count 11 stitches on each side of the back marker .. thats 22 stitches .. then I should have 12 stitches for the front .. I only have 11 for the front .. and counting it all up that’s what the pattern says .. “the marker is in one stitch in the back... so 22 and 1 makes 23 Plus 11 for the toe part and that is 34 stitches” .. that’s the amount that I ended the sole with ..??

Your sneaker seems to have a flat bottom while mine doesn't. Mine doesn't flatten at the row where we only stitched in the back loop all the way around. Does that make sense? My sneaker from the side looks like a rounded bottom row boat. All my stitch counts are correct. Wonder why its doing that?

Your crochet hook is half the size (of the 6.5mm recommended) I'm confused how you managed

To get a firm and steady shoes, using smaller hook really helps. The recommended hook stated at the yarn label are normally if you want to crochet something like blanket, sweater or beanie.

I followed this exactly but my sole has only come out at 2 and half inches ? Is my tension to tight im using double knit wool and a 3.5 mm hook

Hi Lottie. In this video I mentioned I'm using medium weight yarn #4, dk yarn is #3 so i think that's why you get 2 half inches. Maybe double your dl yarn? crochet double strands.

hi Kelli, this probably a little big for newborn but you may use smaller hook or slightly thinner yarn to get smaller size shoes with same pattern
