How to Crochet Easy Triangle Shawl with Shell Stitch

Today I show you how to crochet this Beautiful Shells Shawl. This stitch is a wonderful stitch for making into shawls as it works to a triangular increasing pattern very easily and is simple to remember. It is very easy with only two repeating rows, The V stitch row and the shell row. So let's learn how to crochet this very simple yet elegant triangle shawl; perfect for Spring , or use thicker yarn for a snuggly warmer version!

Hello Vinta (please forgive any spelling error!), I’m not quite a total beginner and I have now made two of these shawls which I’m delighted with. This stitch pattern is beautiful and you teach it perfectly, thank you. I wonder if you can help me use it in another project? Being a relatively new crocheter I’m not good with working out pattern multiples but I would love to make a scarf using these same stitches, including the pretty border edging. I don’t know how to work out the foundation row and would greatly appreciate your help. I’m hoping you may find the time to work this out for me, if possible to produce a scarf about 8 or 10 inches wide? You're very welcome. About the length, it's a general practice to make the length- the longer side of the triangle as long as the length when you stretch both your hands sideways. You can make it as long as you like.

Good instructions but you didn’t finish the video with how many shells across to a finished size.

I'm assuming you just count up. You finish with how many you want to finish with by working until you think it's long enough, if that makes sense. Look how the first shell row is only 1 and the next 2. It's just counting up by ones. You can even take a measuring tape and measure how long one shell is compared to how long you want it to be and that'll give you how many you'll need. So say 1 shell is 1.5in long and I want the shawl to be 63in. We need to figure out how many shells it takes to get to 63in plus the boarder (note: this is for my sake as well 😂 I'm horrible at math). First, measure the boarder (1in) and multiply that by x2, so (1in x 2 = 2in). Next subtract 2in from 63in (63in - 2in= 61in). Divide that by 1.5in (61in/1.5in≈40 shells). So our whole formula would be (63in - (1in × 2in))/1.5in ≈ 40. So overall we'll need about 40 shells to finish our shawl. God I hope this is right and if it is that it helps.
