This is literally the only shawl pattern I've ever been able to follow. No counting to the third stitch of some past row and saying a prayer... just simple and straightforward. I do, however, think I'm going to size way up on the hook for a lacier look.

I am glad you like the pattern, you can change the hook or the yarn size and the pattern will remain the same. Just stop working rows when the shawl is big enough for you. I want to make this one with a bulky yarn someday.

As an experienced crocheter, I heartily recommend your video. The method of teaching chart reading is EXCELLENT! But PLEASE don’t ever wring needlework. After it’s washed, lay it out flat on a thick towel and roll it to remove excess water, then lay it out on a dry towel or blocking mats.

I really like how you explain. It clear and understanding. My question is the chain 3 don't count as a dc would make one side be off count.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
You will chain 3, work your 3 double crochet into the first stitch (you normally skip this stitch when you count the turning chain as a stitch), then when you get to the end you will work the last 3 double crochet into the last stitch not into the turning chain. If you look at the graphs at the video at (4:14) you can count the stitches and see that they stay even. Let me know if this helps!

Thank you for this. I would class myself as an advanced beginner and this pattern is very simple. I’m working with a cashmere yarn that is much lighter than I usually use and it’s giving me problems! 😂

@@WindingRoadCrochet It doesn’t help that it’s a very dark blue, either. Anyway, I realised that it was working up in a diamond shape so I read the comments on your blog and ended up frogging 20 rows! Now I’ve added on extra chain to the turning and middle chains, and I’m doing four doubles into the first and last stitches, and that’s making a straighter edge. I am determined to finish it, it’s for my friend who has just been diagnosed with cancer.

So the chain 3 doesn't count as a stitch?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Most patterns will count it, but for almost all of my patterns I do not count the chain 3 as a stitch. I just don't like having to work the last stitch into a turning chain.

I may actually do a sweater video soon, the pattern will be for a adult size sweater but in order to see what I am doing I will be making a baby sweater. The techniques will all be the same the starting chain and row count will just be different from the adult size.

I found out yesterday that someone very precious to me is very sick. I hate those times in your life that things so desperate, so heart breaking happen and it seems like those are the times that you feel most helpless because you can not do anything. But I can pray. I knew I wanted to make a prayer shawl for her, one filled with love and prayers and well wishes and tears and good memories and I immediately began searching for a shawl that I could manage. I'm maybe intermediate. I finally found your shawl and it was exactly what I was looking for. Something I can make with my skill level while not having to focus intently on the stitching, leaving me able instead to focus on my sweet aunt. Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart.

Hello Lacy, I am sorry to hear that your Aunt is sick. I am glad that my pattern was able to bring you comfort. My mother fought cancer for 7 years and I know how nice it is to have a portable project to keep your hands busy. Enjoy the pattern and I hope your Aunt gets better soon.

It is designed to be made with any type of yarn. You just have to adjust your hook size, so how much yarn you need depends on the weight of the yarn and hook size. I used 1 skein of Red Heart Its a Wrap that was 623 yds. That is a lace weight yarn.

Such a great shawl. My V's are too deep. My warm one, the tail hangs down long enough that I could use it for an emergency Depends! Of course it isn't blocked. Don't have the space.

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
I would try working an extra chain for the turning chain. We often chain tighter than we crochet and if that chain is tight then it could create a bump.

Any tips on starting this project with the yarn used in the example? It is super thin. I can't seem to get it started? Ive even considered starting with a thicker yarn just for the first 3 rows, then switching over......

What exactly is giving you trouble? My first thought is that they are is splitting. If that is the case them I would twist is a little bit for the first yard or so to help you get started.

So, I'm almost finished making this, I've gone up to 50 rows instead of 47, but my question is the one side, that is "mostly" even, did you do a single crochet stitch to finish it off or left it as is? Would it be ok to finish it off with the SC stitch?
